New to Suzi's world !
« on: September 13, 2012, 02:24:47 AM »
Hello everyone I will definitely me on here a lot since i fell in love with my sidekick. First off its a 91 4x4 soft top two door Suzuki Sidekick.

Funny story of how I got it. Well my Stepdad buys and sells cars and was going to send my mom this car since they are in very rough terrain area. It was an auction car that has been sitting in an impound for a while. ( I have no Idea how long)  ??? Since my stepdad need a truck to send to him brother in mexico i gladly traded him just to help him out. Boy was i in it deep. The car was a rolling disaster. The exhaust was embarressinly loud, and was leaking oil as if it was giving it away. So little by little I fixed her up. Replaced the header gasket, had to redrill the holes from the head since two bolts were welded in there from yrs of neglect. I had the mechanic fix the cam seal, oil pan seal, timing belt. I fixed the valve cover gasket before that. All was well but for some reason i hear a humming noise when i drove it over 40 mph. I thought it was the vibrating mainfold again, since i hear these car were loud in general. But on the way to my girlfriends house I smelled something burning like oil as if my oil pan was leaking, or what was left from it leaking previously. so had that smell for a while then SNAP !!!!! Car lost power instantly, and a big bang underneath my seat and grinding metal on asphault. Freaked the hell out pulled over and got under the car to see what happened and saw a chunk of metal fall from the chassis.  :'( Poor suzi was down for the count. Grabbed the part called a friend and had him tow me to his and house then got it home the next morning. Found out the drive shaft from the back end of the T case sheered off. Looking for that driveshaft was impossible, luckily our family mechanic knew someone that could weld a new for her so i had no choice and paid the 140 for the work. So all was good since, went to the pick-a-part for miscellaneous items such as back belt assembly and soft top locking bracet that my cousin broke off trying to look buff. (He denies he broke it) I used a Geo Tracker rear selt bealt assembly for my sidekick but it doesnt lock in the other side  :P So i gotta get the other end or get another assembly. So yesterday I got a pair of window Visors for 20 bucks no cracks and in good condition, but i want to paint them black but dont know where to start. I also bought the repair manual to do the other repairs that need to be addressed like my transfer case is leaking now and dont know why. So all in all that my story about my troublesome suzi and that i would trade it for anything else.

Good grief you have had your share of trouble with that thing.  I think I would trade it while it's still running. This is a great forum. Lots of very knowledgable people that can help with questions or problems. They have helped me several times already. Anyway welcome to the forum.

Looks like a fun little rig.  Is your t-case leaking out the back?  Might need a new output seal.

Wow, you've had some issues.  Both of my Trackers had minor issues but for the most part they were easy to keep running.

Yea I think so cuz I had to fix my drive shaft recently so I think its what it is but I need to get under her again and clean her up
