Question on egr bypass valve - I think that's what it is
« on: October 01, 2012, 04:49:52 PM »
Can someone verify if this part is broken and if so where I can get another.  I'm not sure what it is called but it looks like the top is broken off of it. The part on the left with no hose in the top of it.  Thanks

Looks exactly like mine, but still can't tell if it's broken without a closeup.

Yeah, that's the EGR VSV valve... & yeah it's broken. It should have an oval cylinder on top like this:

Iirc in reading, the cylinder is meant to smooth the pulses from the intake air. I've also read of ppl running them like that & having no problems... but that seems like it would create a vacuum leak to me...? You could prolly get a used one at a junkyard or Trail Tough.

I thought it was just a cover over the breather hole.
