Alright guys just got done fixing some parts in my transmission on my 1987 Samurai, has a 5 speed tranny in it. I have a problem, I put it all back together only to find out that it will not go into any gear. I asked a buddy what he thought and he said the shift forks in the transmission are not aligned properly. I am not talking about the forks right under the shifter. I am talking about the ones inside the transmission. Can someone PLEASE tell me where I need to have the positioned. I am at a lose here a guy got a nice dirtbike and I got his piece of crap. Oh well just need to know where these forks need to be aligned.

It's kind of obvious where the forks inside the transmission are supposed to fit - that is, assuming that you do have a clue as to what you're about - the fork "straddles" the selector hub and fits into a groove on it, so that when it moves, the hub moves with it.

It's also one of the things that most folks check with the transmission on the bench, before reinstallation - slide the shift rods backward/forward with a large screwdriver to engage the various gears one by one - you'll feel the hub snap into position - 1/N/2, 3/N/4, 5/N/R.
