« on: March 26, 2018, 01:18:54 PM »
I have a 2001 v6 auto grand vitara  there is a grinding noise in my front diff. it comes and goes intermittently  it appears  in 2 or 4 wheel drive and also if i roll in neutral
I have disconnected the vacuum hose and still there. it is on the right hand side of car  more than the left.
any ideas

The ring & pinion should be stationary in 2WD, so that rules that out ...

I would jack up the front and roll each side individually, with TC in 2wd.  I would suspect either CV's or wheel bearings.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.
