That is interesting I have a 2001 Galant V6 with the same engine as your Eclipse.  If I use 93 octane I get slighly better performance, but I usually use 89 and have no problems with it.  It recommends 92 but says it will adjust for the lower octane of the cheap stuff.

I THINK (after talking to a few Galant owners in the Mitsu club I'm in) that the Galant has a different ECU.  Mine does not adjust... I've tried it twice now and regretted both times.

I have an 03 with auto and before I moved back to the cold and snow I was getting about 24. Was getting 16-19 for the last couple of months. Now that it is starting to warm up I am getting 19-22. I use 87 octane.

Maybe my better mileage is just due to that then... because I bougth it in December (I live near Boston), and it was horrible... now in the past 2 weeks (of course I changed gas at the same time) it has jumped up to mid-20's.

My older Trackers (1.6l 1992, 1995, and 1997--the 92 and 97 were 5-speeds) were all cold-blooded but much more consistent on mileage.

Perhaps the 2.0l w/auto is just finicky... I'm going to check with Chevrolet to see if there may be an ECU reprogram or something to correct... I know with other cars I've heard of such things.
