Toronto International Autoshow
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:21:16 PM »
I'm going to the Toronto Autoshow tomorrow after work down at the Metro Convention Centre and Skydome.  I'm going to bring my crusty camera and take a few pics of the rides I like and of Suzuki's 2005 Canadian line up.

I love going to the autoshow.  I'm the only person there who actually gets under the cars and trucks to look at the suspensions.  People though I was weird at first, but now get it.  I've been know to stick my head into wheels wells just to see what's doin back there.  :P

The Zuke is on its way out.  Getting a vehicle that will behave and be supported by the dealer.

If could, when I used to hit the Indy auto show, I'd lift hoods, go underneath, the whole bit.
I always had a fascination with automotive design and engineering.
Which is why I crawl the web looking for engineering stuff about zukes.......no, not "hagen" engineering, but stuff from the factory.  The metal used, the torsional stiffness of the body, the boxed frames, etc.

I went to the show today and I have to say that this years Autoshow wasn't all that great.  Suzuki had the same spot as last year which is a great thing because it's one of the first displays you get to see and it was right beside Porsche so there was plenty of attention going to Suzuki.

No more 4 bangers for Suzuki trucks, as we already know.  All V6 now, even the 4 door Vitara, which really got my attention for some reason.  No more 2 door convertibles.  :'(  XL7 and Grand Vitaras look VERY well put together.  I could smell the quality coming off those rigs.

The new Swift looks pretty nice and was very roomy.

The Aerio is the same as last years model...nothings changed, but fast back SX always looks killer.

The new Verona was shockingly beautiful.  Tons of room, very nice and simple design, cool headlights and very nice interior trim.  For a rebadged Daewoo, I was impressed!!

Suzuki had a JWRC Ignis on display that had people gathered around it.  There was also a Hayabusa bike, the top of the line ATV and an oversized scooter.

You guys will get pics by Thursday the latest as soon I get them developed, scanned and uploaded to my server.  I'll post them on this thread.

I have to say that I'm proud of Suzuki's line up and hope it gets better in the next few years.  Let's all cross our fingers and hope they put out a real nice 4x4 built to kill all these Jeeps, LandRovers and stupid luxury SUVs...

Oh yeah, one more thing.  The Chevrolet Tracker is no more.  As of yesterday, the first Chevrolet Equinox rolled off the assembly line at CAMI in Ingersoll.  I don't know what Suzuki has planned for their share in CAMI...but it's pretty safe to assume there will not be a Suzuki coming out of there for the next couple of years if ever.

I love the extra touches that they are giving the Vitaras lately. The altezza - style tail lights, and the different trim pieces..

;)

They look sharp.

I'm not a big fan of the altezza light scheme.  It seems everyone has that crap on.  If anything I think it makes it harder to see a set of break lights on very sunny days.  Call me crazy, but that how I feel.  I do love the V6 Vitara for some reason...I love how the climate control is the slidy switches and not those round button like things.  :P
