e g r code after header/2"exh
« on: February 04, 2004, 03:30:25 AM »
Hey guys,
I recently put calmini header on my 94 tracker I also added a 2" complete exh. sys. w/ flowmaster. Now when it's cold it seems to hesitate and surge when under load. Also the ses light came on the other day and I scaned it and pulled a code 51 EGR PROB. Has anybody ran into this prob after exh work :-/

            Thanks,
                 Kevin

P S I dont have a cat.

The later model egr systems have a temperature probe on the valve. It may be possible that your EGR ductwork/piping is plugged up enough that there isn't enough flow recirculating to heat up the sensor. This could be exaserbated by adding a free flowing exhaust.

Don't know about your surging problem....

This is just a SWAG. Anyone else got an idea? :)

You'll get a check engine light though if you have the temp sensor egr valve. Maybe a resistor can be placed in there to fool the computator?

I looked at my EGR today and I do have the temp sensor I'll try and run all the diag. on it. Ithink that its a back press. sys. and now I don't have much :-/ It runs good though' if you let it warm up. :)

Have you tryed clearing the codes and seeing if they return?  Some times they set when something new is done.  So you can try resetting the computer and letting it learn the new system.

Just a though, plus it's cheep.

We too, are currently experiencing code 44 and code 51 and was suspecting the EGR sensor on the front of the motor, but have not yet determined the exact cause of the problem, keep us posted on your progress.

When I put the Calmini header and exhaust on my late '94 'Kick I didn't run into this problem, but I had already cleaned my EGR valve passages. I even had a 0.007-inch pneumatic restrictor in the EGR valve vacuum line to delay its opening a second or two.

It's true, if you're running less back pressure with an EGR valve that is mostly plugged, the temperature sensor won't get hot enough and the ECU will interpret this as an EGR problem.
