The reason is that trucklets fitted with lockouts and using the air actuated diff  to engage the front instead of free wheeling hubs have an off set inside the carrier to allow the gears to be engaged. That offset is 9mm  longer then the axle out of a trucklet fitted with FWH's.

When did the air actuated start? mY 98 x-90 is not air? So I'm guessing it was only with the Sport and Grand Vitara Models?

On the comment of the 26 vs 22 spline axles in the Anvil.  Would the end user or customer not  be governered by 22 or 26 spline by the type of third member they installed? So the Anvil could be 22 or 26 spline and is universal.  It just depends on the side gears in the differential.

Now with that said installing  22  spline in the anvil does seem silly however if that's all you have ...it's better than nothing.

Don't know about your X90 Zig,

But all G/Vs I've seen had hub lock outs and all the imported 2 lt escudos over here (the equivalent of your sport) run the air actuated system as well.

No,
The Anvil is supplied with a R/H stub axle to replace your "push fit" R/H C/V so that way you can use another L/H shaft with the 3 bolt flange type inner C/V on the R/H/S to make trail repairs easier and you only need to carry one spear shaft to fit both sides.

The axle supplied by Calmini is 26 spline so you must use a 26 spline carrier and L/H inner axle.

Thank god for the forum search ...

I'm changing my 22 spine front to 26 (with the new front locker), went down last night and got the new third in, but for some reason my new LH 26 spline half shaft won;t go in that last 1/4" ...

Hopefully the local machine shop can cut it down for me ...
