Wheel issues,, ,, again.. sorry.
« on: July 13, 2005, 01:13:25 PM »
so i found some wheels from this fellow i know whos got a badass jeep... anyway
they are 15x8 with i believe 4" backspacing...  should i run these on my zuk?  i got a 2" body lift and plan on putting on 235 75 r15's    will i have rubbing ,bumpsteer?, bearing wear issues?                       ???

they are american racing wheels, decent shape and he wants only $20.00 for all four.

he's good people.

yes you can run them as long as they are from a CJ if they are from a YJ or TJ they will have the wrong bolt pattern. 15x8 is a little wide for a 235 tire but shouldn't be too bad.

I have 15 x 8 American Racing wheels and 235 BFG AT's on my Tracker.  It has a two inch suspension lift.  They rub on the bumper cover at full lock and on the inner fender cover on a small amout of turn.  The bumper cover was an easy fix.  I just trimmed it with a Dremel.  The inner fender can be fixed with a bit of metal cutting or a BFH.

If you like the wheels, I say buy them.

Different offset or different tyre diameter. Your steering stops are adjusted up.

I think I have about 3.5 inches of backspacing on an 8 inch wide wheel.  That makes the tire and wheel stick out pretty far.  The tires are 235 BFG's A/T's so they are just a brush over 29 inches tall.

That's why mine rub.  :D

they are 3" backspacing and 5 in the front..   i think that they are going to stick way the hell out of my fenders... ;D       (sweet)

but does that make them rub at full lock, and other turning angles? or is it the other way around??

will the 235's work on a 8" wheel?  i dont want to get my wheels real huge because of decreased speed and power.

THe correct  back spacing is 3 and 3/4  on all american racings aluminum wheels. Unless its a steel wheel it can be different.

i think that i had it wrong the first time i wrote this,,
they are 5" in the back and 3" in the front, ,, i put one on and it stuck out 3"s from the stock fender "flares".   i already got them cleaned and primed, paint tomarrow moring....
so what tires should i go for in the next couple of days?  i dont want refurbished ones, or used in anyway,,          this is my daily driver and i dont want to die just yet.

i want a AT tire, but with good wear and reasonable price, ohh yeah maybe not to much noise too...    Is that too much to ask for. :P

Walmart also carries a AT tire called Liberators that are really cheap and a decent tire driving wise, I am pretty sure they are made by BF Goodrich for Walmart. I am on my second set, and had the first set forever it seemed like and never once had a problem out of them, I think put over 50k on them.  If I had the extra money I would probably go for the Goodrich A/T's though...They are just a good looking tire.
