Towing with a sami?
« on: July 12, 2005, 11:26:37 PM »
I'm changing the gears this weekend to 4.62's, I know the speedo is out but I had to push it real hard to do 100kph usually do about 90kph until it smells a hill or cross wind ;D

Anyways I was wondering if the gears will give me back 5th like when it was stock or more?

Oh ya the towing question I got a tent trailer that weighs 1000-1100 lbs loaded, my tracker could put it no problem (except for that hill thing I mentioned earlier) 100-110kph, think my sami with 31's and the gears can do it or should I buy " SLOW MOVING VEHICLE" signs?

Steve
When this thing hits 88 MPH your gonna see some serious sh!t (hahaha)

If you have a stock transfer case those gears may not be low enough, if your running the stock 1.3 engine go to at least 4.88's, I pull a 1200 lb military m-100 1/4 ton trailer with my sammie with a 4:1 x-fer and stock gears but with a 16 valve 1.6, on the flats can get up to 32 mpg and with a large head wind 15 mpg hills about 23 mpg so I  could use a lower gear to get about 3300 rpm's at 60 mph. on the flats you don't even know it's there.
1987,1988,1988,1990 samurai's,  1953 m38a1,  1996 x-90,blue.1996 x-90 red.1994 2 door tracker.   only Dead Fish go with the flow.                No Hairy Nosed Wombats were ran over on the trail today.       My ZUK is Xenophobic.

I've got a 16V too, but stock gears.  I've got 5th gear again, even with 33's, but I wouldn't begin to tow anything.  I guess I'll see when my gear reduction is done.  For now, I'm with fuelish:  You need 1-More gear reduction, or 2-More motor.
