has anyone seen a lwb suzuki pick-up in North America?
« on: September 08, 2005, 10:08:06 PM »
A while back I was searching the web and came across some pics off a european web site dedicated to the lovable suzuki samurais.  The person went to south america and while he was there took pictures of some different versions of lwb samurais.  One was a fifth wheel sammy that had about a 15 ft trailer attached to it,  the writing said this was a stock option that came from the manufacturer that way.  Another was a pick-up truck,  two seater with about a 5 or 6 foot bed and a conventional tip down tailgate.  It also was a manufacturer offered vehicle that came stock.  Obviously these were never offered in the U.S. or I would find info on them.  I do know that the LWB was offered in Canada, but don't know if either of those options ever were.  I think it would be totally cool to have something like that just to be different.
The same web site showed some modified sammys that I got a kick out of.  Pics of Argentine troop carriers if I remember right.   Suzukis painted camo with about 8  army men in modified back seats.   If that doesn't send fear into opposing freedom fighters I don't know what would...

The Old Sami has seen many versions and most never made it here.

As for the Truck LWB Sami, I've seen on right here in southern Utah.   It was cool, and differnt.  The guy who had it is a Sami enthusaist, who also runs the pro-circut Rock Crawling.

Hawk has a few unique Suzuki in his stable. They have a 'virtual tour' on their website that shows them off.

I've seen a 1995 model LWB pickup....

....in my dad's garage in Australia.  It's mine.  They started making them in India sometime in the 90's, with 1.0L engines, widetrack diffs, and the longer wheelbase.  Mine has an alloy tray on it so the thing weighs nothing.

Canada and south america are the closest places that have these things.  You can still buy them in Costa Rica i'm told.

Not a typo, the proper name is an LJ 81K.

The one on the right is getting a '90 FI 1.3, 5 speed, rocklobster case, 4.62's locked and spoa, toyota PS, 32's and an exo cage. The other is my daily driver with only 41,000 km's and minimal rust.

I worked with a guy who was originally from Croatia (not sure about the spelling)  He goes 'back home' twice a year.  The last time he went back he shipped a 20' boat and a motorcycle back there to play with while he was there.  Makes me wonder how hard it would be to buy some of the somewhat unique zuks from S. America and ship them to the U.S.  More than likely the feds would tax the heck out of it...
