Well my new (to me) sidekick locked up today.... Looks like the rear diff blew out on it, it doesn't move in 2wd just revs, in 4wd the front pulls fine. But there is a whole lot of bad noise coming out of the back.... grrrrrrrrrr .... the rear left rear end pull out totally towards the left a good 8 inches too.

So I have a sidekick for sale for parts or repair! I think I'm gonna buy a GV, gonna shop around.

Do you mean the left axle has pulled out of the housing?  If so, that might be a minor problem.  Find out what allowed it to move, fix that and you might be back on the road.  I don't remember the details, but many years ago I was riding with a friend in his '54 jeep when one axle slid out that way.  He jacked it up, pushed it back in, and we rode on home where he made a permanent fix.

sounds like a broken axel shaft. The noise is probably the broken bits buggering up the rear diff. Get a new third, and a replacement shaft, pretty easy fix.

A new or rebuilt 3rd member and new axle is a pretty easy fix, just a little $$$.  Good luck.

But the rear susp is messed to, It's rusty and I don't know if it can be rewelded. Do you know the trailing arms(?) in the rear, well it broke too, on the left side. whole tire is facing out....

Take us a few pics and post it. It still may be a fairly easy fix

I have to go drive it home... I don't think disconecting the drive shaft will help.. will it?

I would remove the rear shaft if it was me, and just drive home with the front.

I can't get the rear drive shaft off, I'm just gonna put the 4 ways on and drive it....

The rear didn't explode like I thought... I looked and the trailing arm broke and caused the rear end to shift to the right and it's pointing out, so it drives crooked. the noise is the drive shaft spinning freely attached to the rear end and not the tranny. something must have broke in there though....

This truck is too rusty to fix ..... it's not safe
