new guy, new ride, read this!!!
« on: October 09, 2005, 11:10:32 PM »
I'm new on the board.  I think all the rides on here are awesome.  I'd love to talk to anyone who wants to.  :D

I just bought a 90 Sidekick. Due to being a college student and being completely broke, I think I'm going for a 3 inch body and 2 inch coil spacers.  If anyone has any tips or knows of any problems/difficulties with doing any of these that I might run into, please let me know.  Any info will help, I'm a newbie.
I also have a lot of free time so if you ever need someone to drool while you brag about your ride, get in touch with me on AIM: jaketoyourface

Just out of curiosity, do the bolts have to be removed from the strut tower to do the body lift? If so, is it a pain in the ass? If not, pretend I never asked.

The strut towers are not connected to the body, just the frame, so they don't interfere with the body lift. ;)

About the coil spacers, though... Due to the lever/fulcrum effect of the coil cups on the front lower a-arms, 1-1/2" coil spacers give around 2 to 2-1/2" of lift. This is about as high as you'd want to go without lowering the front diff somehow or you will be blowing cv shafts.
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Thanks for the tip, someone else told me to only do 1 inch spacers.
I'll probably post here constantly looking for help. I figure who better to ask then people who have already done all this stuff.

And about buying a sami, I could have drove 250 miles to buy a samurai, or 3 blocks to get a sidekick for $50 cheaper.

I think the kick will be pretty gnarly though.

Anyone got a link to Heather and Nates budget body lift, tried to find it with no luck. It had a pretty detailed explanation of making your own body lift cheap. I followed it and got a 3 inch bod lift for about 25 bucks.  I'm using 1.5 inch coil spacers and would agree wouldnt want to go much thicker than that without lowering the diff. Also when you are putting the spacers in I would recommend getting the Old Man Emu struts. With stock struts and spacers my front camber sits like \  / but from my reading on the forums it seems that the OME struts compensates for that.
