Handling and body roll...
« on: March 27, 2006, 04:48:36 PM »
I had originally planed on going with a full coil-over setup on my sami, for its great offroadability and its nice ride. But, being a daily driven vehicle, I had a few concerns about how it would handle on the streets. This has forced me to reconsider my options (maybe YJ springs up front, coils in the back, or heck, maybe just stick with the good old YJ’s all round)

Sitting on coil-overs feels like your driving a slinky. I really like the articulation and the plush ride, but I really dislike side hills or taking corners. The problem is the body roll, and there has to be ways to help eliminate it.

There are several ways to help reduce roll, but they all seem to have their downsides. Sway bars, for example, fix body roll easily and cheaply, but they reduce the overall articulation (I think). Other ideas include limiting straps that can be tightened on the high side to bring the roll back down, or spring rates could be adjusted, or stiffer shocks could be used too.

I personally am looking for the ultimate setup for a daily driver/wheeler.

best option is a swaybar setup with quick disconnects, or just unbolt them for a wheeling trip.

Body roll?

What Body roll? If a pebble is out of place on a paved road... I'll know about it!
