Well, since last weekend, i've been in the planning to remove the old composite beam headlights from the sidekick and put in some sooper dooper IPF headlight replacements, with replacement wiring harness and some snazzy bulbs. I've been keeping this on the down-low cause i wanted to just get it done, then post up the results, but the weather has been stopping me from working on it.
So 1 reason for me to do this is so that the ARB bullbar i'm putting on doesn't interfere with the headlights, as the bar will block the top 2" of the light, due to the 2" body lift.
The other reason is that my headlights take on water a little too easily, plus i don't like the light output they have given since i've had it. Since i know a guy who can get me a good deal on IPF stuff, i decided to go ahead and do some customizing.
I had originally thought it would be cool to put in some 7" round headlights (like a TJ uses), but found that they sit a little too high and it would be hard to mount them low, so then i decided on using the rectangular 5x7 lights as they will match the front end better, be easier to install lower, and match my driving/spot lights i'll be installing on the bar.
So hopefully this will all come together this weekend. I've gotta make a trip to the junk yard, and pickup some headlight buckets that will mount with minor fabbing (shouldn't be hard), then trim the outers off the grille, leaving just the center section, and mount the headlights. Once it's all fitting well enough, then i'll install the IPF's, harness and bulbs, then work on making a new headlight surround so that it looks more standard.
What you guys think?
Anyone else gotten rid of the composite to go with "sealed beams"?
(yeah, i know, this post is useless without pics.)
