Rear Transmission Mount Question
« on: November 24, 2005, 11:48:13 PM »
Okay so I'm clamping up the new exhaust on the Sammi I just bought and through pushing and pulling around under there, I notice that the rear of the transmission moves freely up and down - Well, it can only go down so far, but it does move freely in an upward motion and then back down until it bounces on the rear mount.

Is this by design or is that mount shot?  I couldn't really tell.  I've owned and worked extensively on several different types of vehicles and I've yet to see one where the transmission was allowed to just swing freely like that - Matter of fact, I had a BMW 325 whose rear mounts were wasted and that caused a hell of a lot of problems, not the least of which was a bent driveshaft - $500 part...doh  I wondered what that strange humming noise was and didn't get under there and look around unti it started "clunking" when going into second gear hard - by then it was too late -

So if someone could guide me on this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
