Here's a scenario that all of us have probably been in at some stage  ;)

Now thats not  stuck hard in my books but heres what it did with a tow out

:o :o :o

Death projectile if it rips clean off !!!

Beware that these were never intended for the extra strain produced by being stuck and can part company from the vehicle.

We rebuilt the front using tube with a .250" wall, plated the frame around the tube with 3/8" plate and made crush spacers to go between like this

then made a 3/16" sheet metal bumper  with 1/2" plate recovery  H/Duty points Incorporated which bolts to thru the crush spacers to the frame

She ain't guna come off now  ;D ;D

I dont get it. Are the Sami loops weaker than the Kick loops? I have snatch straped full soze trucks out of mud holes and mine never moved. And I'm talking 2nd gear high range 4x4 with about a 10-15 foot run before the snatch strap grabbed. The force of the cooler hitting the back of my seat broke a good coleman cooler and about half the bottles in it. I have also snatch block pulled through my tow hoops with the back of my Kick anchored to a tree 16,000+ pull with no damage :-/ Yes I do check them to make sure they are in good shape before I use them but I have tried and have not been able to tear mine up.

When snatch straping, I hook the clevice to my factory loop on the frame, then hook the loop in the strap to the clevice, then I do the same to the vehicle I am towing, then hammer it.  Maybe they just welded stuff better back in the day (89 ;D)

Zig,

There was nothing wrong with the welding back in '86 either cause the welds not broken is it  ;)

I think alot of people get away with using them but then
it only takes one to break off like above and if you've got people standing around watching (and they all ways stand too close) than some ones going to get hurt or killed. Imagine that one above breaking off and flying past on a 9 meter snatch strap - NO thanks  :o :o

I use to be guilty of using the factory loops for recovery as well, but after hearing stories of them braking/tearing off then seeing this one I made a new  front bumper with eyes for towing  and rear recovery bar with 3 hooks on it.  Heres a few pics of  the front one and I can post pics of the rear if any ones interested http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mudfkrs/album?.dir=1ac4&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mudfkrs/my_photos

Cool tow points 8) I may do something whan I build my rear bumper, but when I have been using extracting the same way in the same vehicle, since 94 and there are no signs of damage from it :-/

Are people snatching with a chain or cable when the damage occurs to the loops? I guess I could see that tearing one up :-/

That  Sammy was done with a 9 meter snatch strap, tow rig backed up about 3 meters and floored it, first go it didn't move, backed up a bit more floored it again and out she came  ;D we didn't even relise it was torn until we went to undo the shackel  :o

Here  is a pic. Welded directly to the frame, different than the Sami shown above.
