well, as noted in are much loved and missed K&N thread,  you sould expect power gains by size, color and brand of decal.  for example, and red MSD decal wouldn't yeild as much power as a bright green DOHC V-TEC decal. and if you can get one big enough to cover the side of your car, you might expect gains of up to 150HP.

Stay away from underdrive pulley kits.  They lower your water pump and alternator pulley speed, which will lead to inproper cooling, especially with mechanical fans - will spin slower.  Your lights are dimming because you are in fact turning your alternator slower.  All your electrical system has a preset draw, or load, which will not change, it will always require x number of amps. Now that you spin your alternator slower, you have to have your engine rpm higher to get the same output.   Under drive pulleys are for drag cars, because they dont care about stuff like this.

Actually, the biggest irony on earth is underdrive pulleys, because most people go to high volume water pumps and HO alternators because their cars overheat and dont charge properly, which in the end neutralises all the effects of the underdrive pulley.  I trust you are not building this thing for 1/4 mile times?

I have 33 x12.5 on my stock engine with k&n filter, I dont have problems off road.  A lower 4low would be nice, I might get 5.82 gears later, but it only is a problem when the mud is really soft, the kind that grabs your tires and holds it.

:)Again thanks to all for the input.  i was thinking of getting rid of the underdrive pulley anyway, noticed it did not heat up well when it was -20.  which makes sence.  ganna put it on my girlfriends 93 tracker.  she wont notice. ;D  getting the coil mon.  will get the alt. done this week too.  think i will wait on the gears til next year though and just let em pass me by.
if you get that kind of HP from the K&N sticker i can hardly wait to put on my flowmaster one and see what it will do :D ;D

Wow!  thanks for the fast input.  i had forgot to mention that the K&N is coming next week 8)  i will be looking into that coil next.  what does 'tweek' the regulator mean?  OTT? never heard of them, got a link?  are those gears ganna kill my bank account?  and i am pretty good with tools, is that something i can do myself?  thanks again all!! :)

UPDATE
i found OTT Industries, uhhh i think a lil to much $ right now, and same with buying Calmini front and rear sets... but good idea for the future.  i really want those sami fender flares too... choices.
and found the blaster 2 coil for 48.00.  that doesnt sound to bad.  about 'tweeking', not trying to be picky here but isnt there just a simple alt and bracket i can just buy and drop in?  is anything in this project ganna be simple?  just found that my block was cracked, luckly i have a spare.... what a pain.

The beauty of using the kicker3 setup, is you don't have to do any other gearing options for the axles for 33" tires. For example, I have an 8v 1.6 in my lwb sammy with a stock sammy case with 5.12s and 35s...soon (like in the next 2 weeks) will have a kicker3 installed...already on its way back from OTT, gotta do Heathers first. Can't wait! My sammy does ok at 70 on the freeway with about 16 mpg.

thanks for the link.

alt. shop here says 'tweeking' is a bad idea, to just get a biger one.... so now i start searching for an alt with more amps with the least mods to make it fit.....

which light bulbs did you use that are brighter, price, location?

and i dont have a K&N sticker yet, but my flowmaster one is HUGE!! :o ;)

i've tried everything but PIAA bulbs, and for the money the best all around lightbulb you can buy is Sylvannia Silverstars.

OK, tweeking was a fix for low voltage, if it's
running at 14.5V then yes, it would be a bad
idea, some things like EFI ECUs don't like too
much voltage.

I run 33x9.5s on stock gearing, the on street performance truly sucks, on long hills its 55mph flat out in 3rd. Fifth gear is a distant memory. I have 5:83s ready to go in but I want a steel front axle first
