Budget Lift XL-7
« on: February 05, 2008, 08:38:10 PM »
Sidekicks have used vitara & GV coil springs for a budget lift a almost 2".  Has anyone tried this on a Vitara with XL-7 springs????

The XL- 7 is 980 to 560lbs heavier.  I just don't know if the springs would fit.

I have the '99 Tracker 2 door with RRO spacers.  I would like to get the OME springs but I hate parting with $, waiting for shipping, and then paying more $ for customs.  I would be willing to check out a wrecker for cheap $.

Thanks

I guess it's not an option!?!
I was hoping that I could save a few $$$ instead of ordering the OME springs.
I'll keep my old springs for a cuz'ns sidekick.

I have heard that it does give a small lift but makes the ride harsh.

Yeah....rather than spending a grand on a CALMINI kit (I have a worn out Rocky Road kit on right now), I would love to find a cheap alternative.  The only longer springs I know of are the OME, and they match the OME strut perfectly.  I don't think the crown vic rear shocks would have quite enough travel for the OME springs plus 1 1/8" coil spacers that are out there.  I need new control arms, and would like to have the bushings, as well as the new tie rod ends and diff drop brackets.  I guess the CALMINI kit is the answer.  I have an awesome "old school" alignment guy that should be able to get the alignment under control with the CALMINI kit.  I guess it's time to bite the bullet and order the kit!

zukination out of canada has 3" longer springs for their Gen I kits.  I've been thinking about asking them about  ordering  some of their springs (NO SPACERS, HALLELUJAH!) by themselves since their 4" kit for the Gen II's isn't ready yet, and the springs are interchangable.  I'm sure they'd be a little pricey judging by the cost of their kits, but it couldn't hurt to call or e-mail. ;)

Hmmmm...three inch longer springs.  I don't know what struts and shocks I'd put with 'em.....plus, I'd probably have to order the diff drop brackets from FTS in Taiwan.  I think I'm just gonna go CALMINI.  Would like the Zukination kit when it comes out, but sounds like it's gonna be close to $2000.  Gotta save some money for the XL-7 engine conversion (in about two years).

I was thinking of the Zukination kit too, but when I asked abour kits , they said
"are for the '98 and prior trucks, no guarantee they would work in your vehicle.  We are hoping to have
a couple of lifts available in the summer of '08 for these trucks, just depending on time."
I don't want to buy their springs IF THEY MIGHT work.  I emailed them back asking if the spring for the Vitara is ready; or if it will be that different for the Sidekick, but no reply yet.

I don't want to wait till summer, miss out on some spring fun.  Zukination's kit for the Sidekick does include a bracket to drop the diff, strut extenders, ect.  Looks nice, it would be great to get the springs and frankenstein the rest till their kit is ready.  A cuz in Calgary offered to stop by and pick their brain, I'll have to take him up on it.

Blactrack 99, do you know from Zukination that the springs ARE interchangale??  I mean do you know if they will they be using the same spring in both kits??

Okay, this is sad how long it actually took me to do the research on this.  Between work and play, I haven't even been on the trails lately.  Anywho,  I had some correspondence w/ zukination.  Their r&d on our rigs is currently on hold  :'(.  The springs ARE intercangable....BUT  the Gen II's have a higher spring rate than the Gen I (does my Tracker make me look fat?).  So, they couldn't really promise me any more lift than I currently have w/ my OME stuff.  Looks like a body lift is in my very near future
