Carb/ throttle cable issue.
« on: June 18, 2012, 10:59:46 PM »
I just bought a 1986 samurai and this is my first 4x4 project. The problem is that I just installed a new throttle cable on the stock carb. The place where the throttle cable hooks up to the carb to open the throttle seems to be rubbing on the manifold below when you tighten the carb back down. thus making the gas stick open and not actuate very well. do i need to replace the gasket that the carb sits on to raise it higher or am i not making any sense. plz help

I would think something is amiss with your install or part. A pic or two would help.

Mine's injected, but I didn't know of any that you had to unbolt the carb to install. Thicker gasket is not an option I believe. Fix the problem- not modify to make it work.

There is a phenolic spacer about 3/8th inch thick that goes between the carburetor and the intake manifold. If it's not there then that's why the linkage is hitting the manifold...... ::)
