need help finding a oil leak. where ever its coming from its hiting the exhaust. looks like its real greasy behind the crank pulley.

were ever it is it leaks about a quart a week. been a pain. im suspecting its the front seal.

how hard is it to change the front seal? and probably replace the rear seal as well. and help and tips would be great... thanks

Front seal is not that hard, it will take time though.  The easiest way to do the rear seal is pull the motor.

Idk if it's the pulley been loose. Doesn't look loose when it runs. No vibrations or nothing. If it was wouldnt chew up the belts and sling em off? well the tracker has well over 200k miles on it so it probably needs some new seals.

Loose means less than the 94ftlb spec'd. If it's loose you may have a chewed up crank key.

If the seal is gone, plan on replacing the timing belt while you have it apart.  Normal life is 60k miles.  A lot of people also replace their water pumps then.
Most seals seem to go out as a result of bad pulley installation, which is why I sent that information.  It would be great if it was just a bad seal.

Yea I hope so. I've had it in some deep water and I know that can be good on a seal. I'll have to get to it when it warms up out side.

I hope the t-belt cover isnt gonna be bad like it was on my 88 Sami every cover bolt broke but one.

Sounds like the front seal.  they like to leak gobbs because it is the seal for the oil pump.

If it is the front seal, have fun cuz it is tricky. the crank has a shoulder the you have to get the seal over so it does not fold the sealing lip over.  the FSM says to use a bushing that is the same size as the crank over the narrow part that the timing belt drive sprocket sits on. it is easiest to pull the oil pump. put the seal in it. Find a socket that has the same OD as the crank and can fit over the skinny part of the crank.  Oil it up and slide the whole oil pump over that to kept the inner seal lip pointed toward the back of the engine.

I would replace the oil pump cuz you wont want to do it again.  the bad part is you got to pull the pan off which is tricky.  I tried to do it without pulling the pump but I could not hold the socket AND tap the seal in...

To keep the crank seal lip from folding I used a small piece of plastic from a frozen juice container as a seal protector. Cut the plastic to fit inside the seal with no overlap making a ring out of the plastic, insert into the seal, lube the thing and shove the seal with protector over the crank snout, tap the seal home and remove the protector.
