AC Replacement
« on: October 11, 2008, 08:27:06 AM »
I had a problem with my 02 XL7 ac system. The compressor started to make some noise and it progressed worse. Come to find out that the compressor disintegrates within and fragments contaminate the whole system. In time, the piston would have enough blowby and not work at all or freeze up against the interior wall.

Cheapest I could get replacement components was through discountacparts.com. I got the direct replacement compressor, dryer, and 2 expansion valves (have rear ac) for about 1/2 cost compared to a shop's estimate. Labor install is still the same.

Spent nearly $1600 to get it working properly once again and now its warrantied for another year for both components as well as labor. I had to replace the condensor due to some fan interference that the body repair shop didn't perform correctly for another $150. (Hit a deer couple years ago.) Now I have the dryer left over and can't return (beyond 30 day return policy).

Now, the wife truely enjoys the XL7. BTW, I'm hitting 100k without timing chain work yet. Expect that to be another $1500 or so.

Now the driver's window switch is playing with me.
