2JZ engine in a samurai...

2JZ engine in a samurai...

now i had a previous post about a v8 and it turned out to not be the smartest thing.
so i found a guy who would sell me a totalled toyota for a couple a hundred and a swap
if any one new some info
i was wondering if a 3.0 litre straight 6 2JZ engine would be a good replacement for the standard 1.3 liter 4 cyl out of a samurai
its quick and strong plus they are both japanese made. so would they be more compatible then a chevy engine.
im a big fan of the 2JZ engine anyway. so any help?

take measurements length and height wise.  thats all I can suggest.     personally, I'd stay I4,  but a straight piped I6 can sound reallly good.

That is a good engine but it is long. I am with bob, i would start with the measuring tape.

the measurements are 77 cm long asnd 70 tall. and it looks like its about 55 from mount to mount.
i havent had the time to check the samurai. but i dont think it would take tooo much moding to make it fit.
maybe if i pushed the radiator forward just a little. think it would fit?
or maybe if i dented the firewall just a little.
to me it seems like it would fit nice and tight.
but in the end it looks like it would fit.
any thoughts?

ohh sorry. for those who dont really know 77 cm = ~30 in, 70 cm = ~27.5 in, 55cm = ~22 in

A G13 block (bare) front to back is 37cm, add timing cover, crank pulleys, distributor, etc and I'd estimate you're around 55~60 cm, give or take a few (I'm measuring this on a Swift), you need 17 cm more clearance - I think you're talking about a bit more than just denting the firewall and moving the radiator forward "just a little".

yeah soo forden you were right. i went out and measured today and the engine would fit but thats if i dont have a radiator
and thats kinda really important. soooo
the idea of a 2JZ engine in a suzuki samurai was just blown out the water

I'd stick to 4 cylinder motors.......  just a LOT easier overall to fit.    maybe a WRX 4 cyl?    those are pretty sweet.

ive been looking for 4 bangers. buuuutttt
i dont know were to get one or were to look.
ive found a few but normally when i look it turns out that they are fwd engines.
i cant find many rwd ones that are close to me.
ive been trying to stick to japanese made engines too
and suggestions on were to look?

tuner shops are probably a good place to ask around.    i'm sure if you go to the right salvage yards you can probably find newer model RWD motors that can be made to fit.

I rode with a Sami that had a Toy 22RE set up. They were running the toy trucks Motor tranny, T-Case and axles.. Seemed to have plenty of power with 35's.

I hope you don't mind if I ask - what's a FWD engine?  ;) How does it differ from a RWD engine?

Here's the thing - that G13 in your Samurai is pretty much the same engine as the G13 in my Swift, except that in the Swift it's turned sideways and hooked up to a FWD transaxle - you can unbolt it, and drop it to your Samurai and it will bolt right up, your biggest problem would be the Swift distributor is inline with the engine whilst the Sami distributor is at right angles.

Don't let FWD be a stumbling block, the engines themselves aren't significantly different.

The popular swaps are the other Suzuki G series engines - the G16 from a SideKick or Tracker or maybe a Baleno/Esteem - it does require an adapter plate to bolt up to the Samurai transmission, but it's a fairly common swap and I think there are kits available.

Psh, plumb the radiator to be in the rear of the Sami!
