Swap: VW TDI into '96 4DR Kicker
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:44:40 PM »
Hello Everyone,

New member to the forum and first post!

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here.

I picked a '96 Sidekick JX 4DR not to long ago and have some extensive plans for it. I intend to build a reliable daily
driver with satisfying power and fuel economy, while seconding to be a great off-roader. Idealistic, I know. :)
I want to start by putting a proper lift under it and then move to the centerpiece, a VW TDI.
Specifically, I wish to run the 1.9L AHU from the '97-'99 range as it one of the first TDI that retains mechanical injection.
I'm looking to utilize the Acme conversion kit to mate the the gearbox and mount the block.
I'm posting to reach out to anyone who has done this swap or a similar one in their Vitara, Tracker, Sidekick. I would appreciate any suggestions, build diaries and experiences that can be shared.

Thanks guys.

A friend of mine did this swap and hated it on the road. Great for crawling but not enough power to cruise the highway. He did have toyota axles and 33's I think. ended up putting in a 2.5 GV V-6.
