i want to do the in cab winch controll on my sidekick but im not sure how? is there a way to do that and have the out side controll to? i am pretty crafty just dont know where to start on this one. if anyone has pictures of theres please post them

The winch controller is usually a set of four solenoid switches (consider them large relays) wired into what is known as an H switch, with the winch on the cross bar of the H - the hand controller selects two solenoids at a time so that the motor runs in one direction or the other - you can duplicate the hand control with a toggle switch - however - I would also suggest that you add a selector switch so that you cannot use the in cab control at the same time as the hand controller.

One last thing - some folks will recommend against the use of in cab controls - for safety reasons, I am simply answering your question and side stepping that discussion.

Fordem is right on the last line!!! It is sooo dangerous to sit inside the cab and run the wench. Just this winter not far from me a young girl watched he father die as the cable broke and came straight back through the windshield.

He was attempting to be the good Samaritan when tragedy struck...

Best money spent is the wireless winch controller. Stay off to the side and let the winch do its work...

BRD HNTR has run the wireless kit from Roadless Gear and it's a nice setup.  Especially useful if your doing work with your winch or having a third party run while you are trying to get out of a tight spot.

The only problem is that the power switch is not the strongest and will sometimes break if you unplug the wires from the back.

For winching, you should always follow safety protocol and have a heavy coat or other weight on top of the cable.  I would also recommend switching to a synthetic rope, as I have broken those on the trail and they just fall flat without the destructive properties of a cable.  Also make sure you are using the proper winch, use an ATV winch for pulling out ATV's, not cars.  You want a cable capable of holding the weight.

yes a have a rope for it. when i got the winch my parents bought the rope for the safety of it. (i have a few friends who dont think much)

Thinking about getting a 5K winch for my Samurai,from Tractor Supply or Harbor Frieght...run $200 or less.Ten feet of control line.

Unless you need it to fit in a small space I would wait for a sale and upgrade to the 6k winch.  If you plan on using your winch a lot you might want to save up for a Warn VR.  It's hard to go wrong with Warn.

Drone is right... save your $$$ and get something you will be happy with.

Mine is a Mile Marker and has been on several different vehicles now. Just because you sell the vehicle doesn't mean they hafta get everything.... 

i have the 6k badlands on a samurai and a snatchblock and i have never even got close to getting stuck. its been used a lot and never had a problem. for my side kick i have a 8k csi brute series havnt got to use it yet because im still in the process of building the winch plate

i plug my controller in the cab.
the cable is long enough.

My winch control box is mounted to my front bumper above my winch and the control handle and cable are more than long enough to reach into the cab with plenty of length to spare.

my controll is long enough i just want to have the toggle swich option. its my dd and after school sometimes if it snows well go streight from school and i wont have it and weve gotten stuck before and didnt have it

Many people don't agree to the use of in cab controls due to the chance of a cable break coming through the windshield. I have see some bad damage to vehicles due to cable breakage so it is possible. I use in cab controls, a winch rope instead of cable, and ALWAYS hand a recoil suppressor on the  rope when pulling. I'm always more worried about others around me when pulling. I'm shocked at how stupid people can be around a vehicle extracting itself form a bad spot

I think the point was that, regardless of whether you use the controls from the cab or not - if you don't have them in the truck when necessary, the winch is useless.
