Quick! 4dr body lift?
« on: January 20, 2010, 03:35:55 PM »
Hey guys,  just going to order everything for the lift tonight (FINALLY).  Going with jeffs coil kit, and a small body lift...

As for the body lift...i am between the sky 1" and 2".   is there any difference on parts wear and tear between the two?  i figure for 10$ more, i may as well go 2.

The big question i have, WILL the sky 2" kit work for a 97 tracker  FOUR door?   the fitment on the site is a little vague...

Thanks everyone  ;D

Ya, it's all the same in the way the 2 door and 4 door are sprung,
go with the 2" lift, it won't wear the parts

Wait, what?  body lift sprung?  Sorry Wild, you got me confused.

A 2" body life for a 2 dr, will fit a 4dr then?

By the way...anyone want to lend their thoughts on homemade body lift?

Sorry , I read spring lift into your post somehow
I think the body lift is also the same, front mounts are a little
different but not so it wont go on

I purchased a 2" spacer and strut lift and am looking for a spring lift. I have been told that 99-04 4door springs will provide an additional 2" to my 2 door versus purchasing the more expensive spring lift. Has anybody done this budget lift?

I am also curious about the use of the mustang or Grand Vic shocks. Anybody have thoughts about which is best?  ???

I'm running the Crown Victoria shocks, but would like to
see how the Mustang shocks measure up too, might be
a better (softer) ride because the Mustang is a lighter
car than a Crown Vic

Sorry Andrew I kinda highjacked your thread with my spring / schock questions. I hope folks will reply to all of our questions in the thread.

As for body lifts they are all pretty much the same except if you go highr than 2". Higher than 2" and then you need bumper relocation brackets (if you want a semi stock  bumper look). Steering column extenders, gas filler neck extenders or new hose, brake lines extensions, etc. Some kits include it all like this one from Masterkit1. (click on masterkit1)

Me since this isn't my 1st dance installling lifts I am thinking that if I don't get the lift I need once I change coils (with some forum advice on them 4 door springs) I will install these lift spacers.(click on lift spacers) I can build my own for less than $50.00. These come to my door and the hardware store is 4 blocks from here so everything I need is pretty handy.

you could just go with square tubing. I had some ideas about other diy spacers, but wild and the other guys swayed me toward a home built square tubing body lift. but if you where going with the 1'' or 2'' I would defiantly go with the 2''

Thanks for the responses guys.  Jeffs kit just showed up at my door, and the mustang shocks are on their way.

I'm interested about the body lift... Am I wasting money by spending 150 on a BL kit?   could it just as easily be done with some square tubing?  Or is it worth just picking up the SKY kit?

4dr body lift is different, I've not done it myself but ISTR that there are some studs that are a bigger diameter and you may need additional support blocks (the ones that don't have bolts through them). Bumper mounts are different too.

I am currently in the process of installing JEFF's spacer lift on my 4 door (rear is done, need more spare time....lol) after I am done with the front, I am planning on installing a 2" body lift.  I plan on making my own and I have found this link, I am sure some people already seen the DIY link. Anyhow, it's home-made and thaught it was pretty well written and shouldn't be too hard to make.

Hope this help or at least gives you ideas....

my friend just put skys 1" body lift on a 4 door all worked perfect except the two core support bolts supplied were a tiny bit too short. other than that it was a good kit.it has very nice machined extended NUTS I recommend the 1" just because I hate big body lifts and it really made a nice difference on his rig.

BTW I have a extra 1" sitting in the shop that I had on stand by for my motor conversion that I might sell.
