Toyota vs Sidekick Power Steering Samurai
« on: August 28, 2012, 07:48:44 AM »
Hey all, I wanted to get some opinions on adding powersteering to my Samurai. I already have Over the Top steering, but I am wanting to give my arms a break. I am running 33's and locked in the front.  Still running Samruai axles, but what setup did  you like most, Toyota or Suzuki? Pros/Cons. Thanks for the help!
Jon

I run a tracker pump with a locker and 31"s and yes, it does work, but I want more steering.

Do you guys suggest running power steering with a smaller size like 31" tires or just when you pass that mark?

ok... my only consideration is I plan on going Toyota axle's in the future... so toyota made more sense, but sidekick's are a dime a dozen... I am just waiting for my ARB to blow up in the axles then Yota time!

On one of my samurais, I only run 29s and an open front, and I still added PS to it.  Definitely worth it, no matter what size tires you run.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

i have a trail slayer(toyota axles) and i have found my P/S to be more than sufficient, that being said, these steering systems are sensitive. my father has a 2+2 calmini kit on his and it steers like a tank. i think the pumps get old and worn and dont pump the same PSI as when new. locking the front axel will make ANY steering system difficult, even full hydro. there are just too many opposite forces working against each other.
so
my opinion would be......suzuki !!

1995 Sidekick SAS'd "Trail Slayer"
1993 4 door lifted "Road Warrior"
1995 4 door stocker "CreamPuff"

X2!
I'm also on 29's (but just one Samurai here), and Sidekick PS made a huge difference.  Now the wife can and will drive it too!
I wish I'd done it sooner.
