2WD Vs. 4WD differences
« on: May 23, 2007, 10:07:57 AM »
I'm curious what exactly the differences between a 4 door JS and a 4 door JX.

Is it simply the front diff, driveshaft and tcase?

Is the frame different at all?

Are any features lost or gained?

What year vehichles had power steering with the 1.6L? I can't find info about this being an option or a standard feature. I would hope that it is standard.

Thanks

Thanks, I can't believe I missed that one.

But, it didn't answer my Q about power steering. DId the JX or JS 4 door have ps? Was it an upgrade?

It is a necessity for me.

I would guess that PS would be an upgrade.

If you need PS, but don't find a trackick with it, just swap it on.  Get the pump, box, steering shaft, resevior, lines and double crank pulley (if it doesn't have it already).....it is a bolt on deal.

Where would I find all of those parts?? Salvage yard?

And I take it that those woudl bolt on to either a 2wd or 4wd kick.

Salvage yard or someone selling the parts.
They will work from a 2wd or 4wd, 2 door 4 door, 89-98 (maybe later too, but I know until 98).  Just don't get sport parts (1.8L engine), they are not the same.
The only difference is between the 8V and 16V pump mounting to block bracket.  You need to get the bracket, that mounts the pump to the block, for whichever engine you have.
