8v and 16v block

8v and 16v block

Are the 16v and 8v blocks the same ?? Thanks

I think the blocks are but the pistons are diffrent, the 16 valve has four valve reliefs on each piston. also the crank on the 16v might be stronger?

The blocks are identical, there are
some minor differences in the oil
pump, the 16V oil pump had a crank
position sensor, the 8V does not.

The 16V crank has counter weights
on both sides of the throw, the 8V
has only on one side, I think the 16V
crank would be a little smoother in running
but as far as strength, I see little difference.

The cranks have hollow spots in the throw,
looks wierd, you can look through the throw,
I was wondering if there is a replacement
forged or steel crank available, or is this
something that even has a need ???

I bet the oil pump you have is 1995 or newer obdII stuff

Was 95 the eirst year of the 16V ?
I was planning on using the CPS for
the MegaSquirt II Computer to give it
Spark Control info, spark control and
boost retard, I bet I can get a little more
power wiht the milled pistons and some
Computerized spark settings

In OZ the 16v was always in the LWB (mine's a '93) and went into the SWB halfway thru '94.

Soooo the block is the same ??? Can I just put the head off a 16v onto a 8v block? The rig I just bought has a hole in the block. Thanks

Aparently that works,,, it just becomes an interferance engine. I don't think there's much of a gain either. You might be better with a 1.3 head actually (you gain a little compression that way). I here they run better with out holes in them though too ;) ;D

how about a stroker motor?  1.3L block with 16 valve crank?  Or is it not worth the time... ???

I know that they made them in 1992 mine is a 94 and does not have the crank sensor, if you use an 8 valve block you need to use the 16 valve pistons or you might bend a few valves, get an esteem engine and put in there with you other parts on the top end that are diffrent.

1992 was the first year in Canada for the 16v, but only in the 4 door.

I tried that, it would take too much machine work,
the block of a 1.3L is about 1 inch shorter than a
1.6L block, as well as the rod journals are smaller
in a 1.3, the wrist pin is smaller, the rods are shorter,
and the pistons would hit the crank if you made a set
of rods to fit the crank.

Best bet, build a 1.6 and be happy.
