mini spool on road

mini spool on road

I reciently bought a project samurai with a bunch of uninstalled parts,one of which was a mini spool.He told me he runs a spool in his zuke rearend on the road with no problems,what do you think.Sounds like a good way to end up in the ditch to me.

I' ve run the Hell out of mine on the streets as my daily dariver with 33" boggers. 8)  Not a problem yet.  As for ending up in a ditch, isn't that what we build these things to do, is end up in ditchs and mudholes rock gardens!  :P :P

Yep I run mine in my tracker on 31x10.5's as a daily driver also.

I drove over 300 miles in one trip wheeled and headed back with no prob
I't realy important to keep the same time pressure in the tires, but you should do that anyway 
I liked the spool beter then the lockrite I have know

Please don't put that thing in a DD. You can't even guess the horror stories I have heard about all the mayhem that one of those things will cause. :o  The thing about being in the ditch? Well, that is true but the bad thing is you will be in the ditch upside down if your lucky. You can't steer at all and you will be a danger to anyone on the streets. And on the sidewalks and in the ditches and front yards and in some cases, even the inside of buildings. Do you really want to inflict that kind of danger and sorrow on innocent bystanders? :'(

To help you sleep easy at night knowing that dangerous, deadly contraption is not in your DD. You can send it to me for safe disposal of said dangerous item. 8) :laugh:

PS

Dont forget to lock-tite the carrier and ring bolts. Mine came lose and snaped the heads off three bolts on the ring and I had a shop do it  :(     never again will I have someone else do it for me If someone's going to mess up my stuff might as well be me  :)

The problems you will have with a spool will be that the back end will swing out on rainy and snowy days.  But then again I had a L/S in my Chev truck and it did the same thing in the snow.

Also, tire wear.  When you turn a corner you will be dragging a tire all the time.  That's been the biggest complant that I have heard of.

This will happen if you're on the pedal in the turn  :o  You have to take it easy until you get used to it, just like anything else.

my "spin" (pun intended)

a spool is acceptable for a 40/60 driver/wheeler ... and absolutely perfect for a 20/80 driver/wheeler.

if it's gunna be an 80/20 driver/wheeler ... you either go selctable (aka ARB) or leave it open.
