Rock Sliders

Thinkin about making some sliders. Any have any suggestions on what to do, not to do, or any design ideas that they regret about their sliders? wishlists? I've herd of tow tabs, sounds good, not for actually towing but for stablizing on offcamber situtions.

just try to keep them as close to the body as possible and nothing underneath them for rocks to hang up on, and I would have them stick out the side a little so you could use a high lift jack on them.

I like the look of the shrockworks sliders he does for samurai's it appears that they are in development and sees like they are going to stay in development cause it's been on his site for what seems like forever.  

I was thinking about running the metal all the way to the frame at an angle. It's not my idea I saw it on one of the RPM 4x4 guys trucks. It was either Hagen or Chunk but I can't remember.

If you have ever seen Hawks sidekick he used a large pipe like 8 inches and cut it in half and matched to the body line It looks pretty cool too.

I have just put sliders on my 4dr and have barely lost any clearance and they don't go to the chassis and nothing to hang up on 8) Haven't got any pics at the moment but will take some and post them when I get a chance.

Mine were a 1-off by Spidertrax.  It's awesome, having a major Suzuki shop within about an hour drive time!

I"m thinking of something similar to bobzukis's sliders. I have round stock though so it'll be slightly different. I'm just wondering the best way to mount. I've herd welding and drilling into the frame prolly doesn't help its strength so I'm pondering a two plate bolt around system that will sandwich the frame. Any experiences Good/bad about this? anyone know how to get the slider tight against the rockerpannel and still get around the body weld that runs the length of the truck? also what kind of reinforcement is behind those things.

could you put some jerrycan's underthere? or a sleeping bag? or a package of white power??   JK  ;D    :o

Dont go cheap, and if you build your own make sure your decent at welding.

You can see just above my slider a crushed rocker. It was caused by using to small of a support and it breaking at the weld. Now that I have the 2x4 slider (shown in pic) I have not had any trouble.

You're right about the with most frams.  Like GM and Ford their "C" canaled forged harden steel.

Our Zooks are a mild squar tub frame.  If you looke you can see where the front and rear are welded to the frame.

You can weld with no problems to this frame.

I had already damaged my rockers when I decied to make some sliders.

I folded the rocker lip over and built a slider to go around the rocker.

It goes up the side, across the bottom and back up to the body suports.  Then I have two arms going to the frame.  When I installed it I siliconed it to the body where the two touched and then welded it to the frame.

They work great!  And I can use a jack to lift the whole truck with them no problems.

Buddy of mine did the 2 bolt above, 2 bolt below and it was wobbly and started to crush the frame.  (I'd suggest if you wanted a bolt on to use collars).  He did a weld on after that and it was SOLID.

Yeah, but...
Those are just screwed onto the body!!!   :o

Do they work?

I guess I just always figured they had to be welded to the frame...  Guess I'd be afraid of ripping the body off the frame, when I dropped down on 'em hard!

The weight will destribute, you'd have to bend that 1/4" (looks like 1/4"). Very nice. Did you make those? I just welded some 3.5"X.25" angle iron to the side of my samurai. The only down side of doing it like this is, that the weight puts alota stress on the body mounts but I havent been able to break anything yet.
