I have these recovery "hook"
which are like the D loops

I was wondering how strong they might be?
Or what option I should use to perhaps pull someone stuck in a snow drift etc.. using tow straps?

should I just buy a class 2 trailer hitch rather than use these hooks?

also wanted to ask
if I use a clevis with a tow strap
how does that work?
I wrap the loop through itself to attach to lets say the other vehical

and the loop on the other end
how do I attach the clevis without attaching the metal directly to the tow hook on my tracker as they are solid D shaped hooks

Watch using a trailer hitch, balls are easily broken off when snatching with a strap. If you have a receiver with a clevice attachment they seem tohold up well. I have always hooked to the factory D hooks and pulled away. i usually carry two clevices, one to hook into my ride and one to hook to the one I'm pulling out. It's usually the unprepared that have no straps/hooks/ winch, that get stuck.

    I've ripped full size cheby's out of holes with the factory d hooks don't worry they're plenty strong enough
   I'm with zukipilot use two clevis' one on yours one on theres shouldn't have any problems oh yeah if you put a hitch on its just going to dig into the ground anyways on the trail

Watch using Clevis's on some vehicles. They will rip the factory tow points right off the vehicle and become a flying projectile! Ouch!

They can be used when the mounting points are well placed and thought out. Also use an old blanket and or weight of somekind to prevent the strap from flying IF it breaks or rips the mounts off.

Yeah factory tow hooks are not desinged to be use as tow hooks they are simply there for holding the vechile down on tow trucks and when they ship the auto.

Ive seen idots try to tow cars out and the hook take the rear end of the car and the bumper off.

When towing a auto out of a ditch its a 2-3,000lb car plus the force needed to take it out of the mud or snow can excert 5,000lbs. Ive watched a test once were they towed a 2,500lb car out of a snow ditch not a biggie and the force needed was over 4,000lbs to 5,000lbs of force needed.

So look on the car and see what u can use to hold the weight hense live axles 2 tow hooks.

i have seen this alot with rustyer trackers  yet mine has never moved at all.  but it makes me think of renforcing it.

Be aware that the loops that are located front and rear are actually hold down points for carriers to attach. The front is mostly used to pull you when needed, but again beware that your vehicle weighs near 3000#'s and that front loop is only/maybe 1/2" diameter.
For the rear, it's rather simple. Get the tow frame, secure it to the stock frame points (nuts are welded in the frame) and file down the sharp edges of the receiver. The tow frame is secured by 4 bolts. To secure a strap to the frame, place the strap loop in the receive hole, place the pin in the loop. Simple enough. Now if you can not get someone out of a situation after lets say 3 pulls, but have moved them some, check that pin!!! and the strap loop. The strap couls start to shred from the sharp edges of the receiver.  You could also wrap the strap around the tow frame and secure it through itself, or use the d-clevis, but this could slip along the frame and you could place more stress on one side of the frame.

speaking of ripping the whole rear end off, RealRed, why don't you link up the stileproject clip for all to see.

omg thank you so much..i needed a laugh..i've had a horrible day...the track still broke..and delivering tonight..i had 12 deliveries and between all fucking 12 deliveries i made 14 bucks in tips....wtf  

Mine came this way, but just goes to show.   DO NOT depend on the factory tow points.
