I just received my transfer case gears for my 1990 Sidekick (I ordered them from Calmini in April).
When I opened the package the instructions said they where good for 93-98 Sidekick/Trackers.  I called Calmini and they said that the transfer cases changed in 93 and I would need to get a 93 or newer transfer case.  I wish they would have told me that when I ordered them (and when I told them I was going to install them into a 1990 model).  
Has anybody else had this problem?

You do need the newer t-case. Try your local junk yard or pick-a-part, they'll basically give you a Sidekick t-case, at least that has been my experience....

Yeah, Rod. They did the same thing to me. When I told the guy I had an '89, he SHOULD have TOLD ME I NEEDED A '92 and up 'case. I then call and get someone else on techline, and basically got an attitude for trying to put them in an '89 case. Needless to say, I haven't ordered anything from them since!

It clearly states that it only fits 93 - 98 cases right next to the price. I dont think its fair to expect the person on the phone to explain everything about thier product before you buy it.

When I called and ordered the transfer case gears I specifically asked if they fit a 1990.  That particular saleman said "Yes".  When I called back today the salesman said "no". He did quickly offer to let me ship them back for a full refund.  I want to see how much a used transfer case is going to cost first.  When I ordered the gears in April they where on special for $875.  So maybe the money I saved will help offset the cost of another transfer case.

I was considering replacing the tcase gears. I have a spare tcase that I was going to put the new gears in, that way I would minimise the time I was without the car. I don't recall the year of the truck that the tcase came from. Is there any way to tell?

I had no computer at the time I ordered mine. I got the # from a friend over the phone. I would EXPECT them to know thier product, especially when they specifically asked me what year I had. If he told me on the phone I needed a newer case, no problem. I have a couple kicking around. I just didn't care for the attitude I got from tech assistance. I'm not looking for a detailed explanation of the gears, just if they'll fit the year track/kick I had, I don't think that's asking a lot.

I'd think a used case from a junkyard would be pretty cheap.
