I am jealous of your Zuki stash Digger.. ESPECIALLY that new red addition!!!
Are you going to do anything to that one?? lift? tires? I LOVE that car.
-
Well, it's already got a 2" Calmini suspension lift and 1-1/4" TrailTough wheel spacers. I originally had thoughts of trying to make it trail worthy, then I had thoughts of reverting it back to stock and using the lift pieces on a different rig, but after driving it from Florida to PA through twisty mountain roads I'm not changing a thing on the suspension! ;) ;D
It's pretty much perfect the way it is for what I want out of it, so it's pretty much much done except for some cosmetics and comfort additions....

my vitara was once upon a time black and stock as a rock. i lost all my early pics of it when my old computer crashed. i only have pics of it after it was resprayed, which was the 2nd week i got it.
here it is 4th month of ownership. NO LIFT worn 31"s, 15x8 wheels trying to work out where to cut the guards.

What size tires are these?, and is this calmini 3" suspension lift only? no body lift?
Maybe these before and after picts should include what was done so those of us who will be doing these things some day can see what the rig will look like when certian mods are done to it. All I have done so far is put on bigger tires, I dont think that warrents a before and after pict.

I agree, I will be upgrading my Samurai eventually, I would like to know what each mod would look like. Could a mod or admin sticky this thread also?
-
You know what i'd like to see that you rarely ever do see?
flat ground shots.
i like all the cool flex shots and action shots. but i'd like to see pictures of lifts on just a regular flat surface like a road. Just to get a good idea of not just how a certain lift will look visually but an idea of how much ground clearance it gains. everyone puts on a lift and climbs the first curb or rock they can find and snaps pictures. But i just want to know how high it sits and how much room the wheel wells have left and whatnot.
-
here is the best i can do with clearance under my vit.

I see you have ran in a lot of diferent ways,, I think you could better than most tell us what you think about some mods : ), I also got curious, you used to ran 33'' but now you are back to 31'', could you explain why you got back to smaller wheels?
Have you broken stuff?

yes, i have run a lot of different combinations and parts, all because i was a student when i first got my vit, and money was a big problem, so stuff needed to be free or cost next to nothing, and most of the stuff i ended up making myself.
also, where i am in Australia, there is no one else with a modded vitara, and i would dare say i'd be the first in my city. so there was no help like there are these days, and so i had to rely on what i thought would work, and a lot of trial and error. nothing like coming onto a forum and asking what to do, i just did it.
so..... tyres, well, my original plans when i 1st got my vit were to run 33"s, and it took a little longer to get there in the end. so when i was able to afford 33"s, i wasnt able to get any transfer reduction gearing, which was definately 2nd on the list, but the major problem was legality. i was not approved to run 33" tyres on my vitara, but instead, was able to run 31" no problems.
on road with the 5 speed manual, and 5.12 diff gears, the 33"s were streetable in my opinion, but was definately lacking in off road.
i am legally only allowed to run a 31" tall tyre, technically speaking, so i opted to go with a SIMEX ET, which, in a printed 31"x10.5"x15" measures 32.6" tall, so brand new, the simex's were basically a 33" tall tyre. woo hoo, i got around that, and they cant say anything, because the tyres are printed 31".
also, i did not have enough lift nor clearance for the 33"s to fully flex and clear, especially when turning and so on, and that is why i am trying to build a 5" lift on my vit. after my 31" simex's wear down, i will be going for their 32"s which measure 33.3" tall, or something like that. i will try to get my 32" tyres approved when the time comes.
SIMEX's are extremely good in all terrain, especially with wet terrain consisting of mostly mud! i love them. although not to good wearing on road, but hey, i can live with it.
i am still saving for some transfer reduction gears, as i've always wanted them, but in reality, i have not really needed them. of course lower gearing is better, esp with larger tyres, but in mud running and all, its very important to have wheelspeed to clear the tyres, and i think i would fine low range with reduction may not be fast enough, unless i run 3rd gear low or something. so i have lived with what i have now.
i am lowering the front diff down a bit, only to run a little more lift. i have not broken my front diff yet, but i have broken 3 CV joints, all of which i could have avoided. i mean, you gotta put on a show when there's a crowd!
i am making a new upper link on the rear diff, which replaces the upper ball joint with a bush. i considered a rose joint like the calmini kit, but i run in a lot of water and mud, and from what i have read from others, the rose joint does not hold up that well to mud and stuff.

skid, excellent vitara you have.. very intense looking. I'll probably be doing the college thing when I start modding my vit's suspension. Don't want to thrash it too hard till I get another daily driver though.
anyways, good work, nice ride

yea no prob, it s nice vit, I've done some hill climbing and the thing really surprised me as to what it could do so I kept doing more intense hills until I had to start backing down cause I would lift a tire and lose all my traction. The whole turning of the front wheels to grab traction got me over the tops of a few hills I would have backed down otherwise.. yea, Ican't wait till I get some more travel out of my vitara, just ordered some 0-2 inch lift shocks from boondox that should get me some more travel in the back.
I'm sure I'll so some wheeling before getting another daily dirver but once i get another daily driver I don't have to worry about rushing through projects so I can drive it the next day as well as being able to drive the next day if I break something.
Shredder, that's a nice kick, I like the boondox coil spacers added to your 3 inch lift, it sits really nice, did you add some bigger shocks and what not to get more travel out of it when you did the spacers?.. anyways, it's a beast
-

Thanks. I run the +4" shocks in back. In front I also run some custom Boondox springs because the Calmini ones had sagged more than I liked. Looked like this /**\ . Now it rides well and sits tall and proud l**l . My CVs most likely would prefer less lift but I need alot of clearance for all the mud, ruts and logs I have to deal with. Haven't had one fail yet but i am sure it is just a matter of time.

yea, that's cool, couldn't you make bigger drop brackets for the front diff? also did you do a spacer plate between the diff and driveshaft flanges to make sure the slip yoke doesn't die or can it go that far? curious cause I will probably one day do that much lift. looks like your camber is just barely like "\ /" but barely. I personally think it seems like a good idea to have it over cammed a tadd.. the pic could make it look that way too, I don't know. mine sits like / \ a bit stock, can't stand it. it looks really good with your lift on there, how much abuse did the calmini coils take before they sagged? also are the boondox coils nicer riding than the calmini ones were to begin with?
by the way, just ordered some pro comp 0-2 inch lift shocks last night to put on my stock GV from you guys at boondox, can't wait to intall them

Who's 450R?
the 450 R on my car domain page is mine, i freaking love it. I just remembered that it looks a bit different now, I should post some new pics of it on car domain...
Cool! I've been racing ATV's professionaly for the last 17 years. Last year I raced an 05 450R in The Best In The Desert series and I tested the 06 450R in a 12 hour race last november. The 06 is a major improvement over the 04 and 05.

Here's my 1995 Sidekick JX 4 Door back in 2000, when I bought it from a friends Mom to replace my dying Dodge...
I quickly realized that I really enjoyed this little rig, and after a few trips offroading with some friends and they're Jeeps, I saw how great this rig would go....
I then added some 29" used TSL's....What a difference!ÂÂ
(http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11310/DSC01128.JPG)
Then put a 2" Jeep TJ coil spacer lift on it:
Last year, I added a 3" body lift, and some 31" TSL LTBs, a rear locker, some longer shocks and some exaust/engine upgrades:
Two weeks ago, I finally added a Calmini 3" suspension lift with the intent to eventually add some 34" LTBs to my rig. ÂÂ
(http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11310/Picture_035.jpg)ÂÂ
(http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11310/Picture_031.jpg)
The one thing you quickly realize is these projects are never "complete"....No matter what you do, or how far you've come, there are always things you either need to do, or more often, want to do.... ÂÂ
But, I wouldn't have it any other way!ÂÂ
-Zukisidekick

nice, mine's an 05 that's pretty much stock other than my gear reduction sprocket. I am very novice, it's the first 4 wheeler I have ever owned. I have ridden utility 4 wheelers and my old 3 wheeler a bunch and not really any sport quads till I rode my friend's 450 R before getting mine. I read up on the improvements on the 06 and was a bit upset cause I had just got the 05 but it was twards when the 06's were being introduced so we got a better deal on it....
for a beginner like me it's much more than enough. It's a beast

Hey Echojeff,
Yeah, I actually kept the 2" spacers on the truck, so it has both the 2" TJ spacers, and the Calmini 3" kit on it.
You can find those TJ spacers on Ebay from time to time....They're not terribly expensive. If you do decide to get them, you'll need to use a hole saw and bore the center of the spacer out to 2 1/4". There are some companies that make spacers that are already predrilled to fit over the zuk bumpstops.

Do you have a picture of your CV angles with all that lift?? It seems that that would be very extreme..
Have you considered removing the body lift?? I think it looks much better in the middle picture to be honest.. the last picture it is just too high for my taste.. whaddya mean you didn't build it for me!!! lol JK...

Hi Quaddawg,
Don't have any pics of the CV's yet....The angles initially on the CV's were little more than I would ideally like to have, but after driving it for a few weeks now on the road, the suspension is settling in, and the angles are being reduced... I'm not too concerned with the CVs, since a friend of mine is running a 2 door with a similar setup, but with 33's, locked both ends like me, and has had no problems.  I'm ready to replace a CV when one/both goes out.  Nature of the beast I guess.... ;)
Yeah, it's a bit tall at the moment (large gap in wheel wells). My objective is to fit some 34 Ltbs in there without too much trimming.  I have to save up some more pennies before I can splurge on the bigger tires though.... I'll keep the body lift on, so that my trimming is minimal. ÂÂ

I don't have any stock pictures of my truck but close your eyes and imagine a bone stock yellow Tracker, I know it's a test of your imagination but I think you can do it if you concentrate ;D
Here it is now before my next set of upgrades start
Hey Biker, what size of tires are those? They look about the rigth size : )

Those are 9/34-16 TSL's, they fit good and no rubbing issues. I'm still running the stock aluminum front but only because they want to rape me for the steel one up here :o

I cant believe the diffrence those spacers made, you still got them?
Hey Echojeff,
Yeah, I actually kept the 2" spacers on the truck, so it has both the 2" TJ spacers, and the Calmini 3" kit on it. ÂÂ
ÂÂ

Just always looking for a better deal.....yes I am cheap. I am with Quaddawg on the lift, but I understand that 34's would make it look better. But that means, $ for tires, then comes loss of power, so you need gearing or MORE POWER.... it just keeps going and going...
I spent a good money on my new LT235's, and I am not ready to lift it a lot and make it look like it needs a bigger tire. I thought your rig looked good with the 2" spacer with not overdoing it for that tire size. I noticed your 95 4door has different headrests than mine. Must be the diffrence between the JX and the JLX. My seats are OK, but I would like somthing different. Even though I have lost some weight, my butt was tired before the end of the last trail ride.
Would the extra 2" change the center of gravity enough to where it is that noticeable? Would you need wheel spacers to counteract the change?

I think zukiworld might just beat out the bow flex for infomecial potential. Look at all of the muscle and good looks these zuks have gained after there owners spent less than six week browsing through zukiworld. :D

I'm digging the bedliner
Thanks a lot! I just noticed I put the coil spacers in the mod list, but I'm pretty sure they weren't on in these pics. It's a little taller and more level now. I'll have to take some new pics. The bedliner has since faded to a flat finish, but I'm gonna recoat it sometime this summer. I have a few spots with pink showing through. I think when I do it, I'm gonna get the UV Protectant to spray over it so it won't fade, hopefully... Guess we'll see. I've also got a brush guard that's waiting to go on.

you used herculiner right? I used it on my lights and brush guard/bumper and it fades really fast. what I recoated my brush guard a few times. I have UV protectanted the thing allot and finally realized that spraying it with gloss black spray paint was a good idea. looks almost as good as freshly applied herculiner and when it does scuff off it's not very noticeable and it's easy to touch up. I'd do that but if you have a few paint spots showing probably recoat it then paint over it and it will be a really nice coating on it.
I was noticing that it didn't look like the spacers were in but it still looks cool in those pics.
keep up the good work my friend

Did you use the Herculiner UV Protectant that's actually Herculiner brand? I was told it worked... Hmmm, maybe not. I dunno, I don't mind the flat look, but after looking at these pics again, it definitely looks "cleaner" when it's new and a little shinier... Yeah, my trucklet was pink, so I put 3 coats on it. I think if I scuff it with a wire brush and slather on a really thick coat it'll be good to go. The spots just started showing through in the last 6 months or so. I need to take a couple more pics now that the spacers are in, though I may wait till I get the brushguard welded up and put on. Got any fairly close pics of your bumper/brushguard done in Herculiner???
