Actually I measured them to be 1-1/2" longer than the new stock ones and $5 cheaper each, too!

I'm very happy with mine! I agree, BIG thanks to whoever found this out! LOL!

Do you guys have actual shock model and part numbers? Or, has that already been posted?  :-[

The ones I got were from Advance. They were Monroe gasmatics for the rear of a 91 Crown Victoria. I've heard that rear shocks from the E-150 vans work also...

So they flex better than the stock shocks? Do you have to have any kind of lift (spacers coils etc) for them to fit?

first of all, congrats digger!

second, does anyone know about the e-150 springs?  i've heard that using e150 springs and GV springs will give you a 2 inch lift...  I want to try it out, but i figured it would make the ride super stiff, since the springs are made for such heavy vehicles..

third, i always thought it was the springs that gave you flex instead of the shocks... i thought shocks were just used to cushion the bumps and stuff.... can anyone explain or add to my comments and quesions?

The tech archive article that mentioned E-150 springs was a typographical error. They meant E-150 shocks. E-150's use leaf springs in the rear.

Longer shocks allow longer travel which means more flex because they allow the axle to droop further. To fit the longer shocks on my truck, on Silver I use 1-1/2" coil spacers and on the Goblin I use 2" Calmini lift springs.

well that's a big 10-4!  i always thought they used leaf springs, but figured the e150 is an oddball vehicle or something.... thanks for clearing it up for me

I tried the F-150 shocks, way too long,
that's when Mike said try the Crown Vic
shocks.

I run a 3" spacer on a stock rear shock

its me again with basically the same question...  i CAN use GV springs to give me a lift, right?  i hate to sound stupid or stubborn, but i don't want to spent $700 or more on something that i can get for 200 at most.. i want a lift (not body), with a fairly comfortable on-road ride, and fairly decent flex...

You will get some lift, but the rate will be higher
than the stock springs, I don't know how much
lift you will get, but I would think only 1 inch or
so, not as much as a lifted suspension kit

Using GV or 4 door springs will get you some lift for your 2 door, but only because they have a higher rate, therefore they can hold up more weight. I don't know if they are any longer than stock. This means that any lift they provide will be also making the ride that much stiffer and harsher. If you like the way your rig rides now and don't really want to make it stiffer, then you're gonna have to either go with coil spacers or pop for a kit with longer springs.

I put the rear springs from my 4dr into my 2dr ...

They are about 1/2" (maybe 3/4") longer free, and a little stiffer (but not that much). Overall I think it put an extra 1" at the rear.

i have no lift what so ever but the extra length in the shock allowed the spring too droop all the way and still stay in place ( not fall off) big difference

I did go with the F-150 shocks.  They are longer, so I cut and moved the upper mount.  So I was able to "dial" it in to the perfect length.

But, what a difference in both the ride and travel.  The ride is next to stock and thats with the Calimini front struts (next year I'm going with the OME struts).  The rear end works unbeleveable!

I'm trying '01 TJ front shocks tomorrow. Got them for free from a friend after he did his lift...I will post the results.
