Hey guys, i don't know if anyone else has seen this, but Rocky Road has more info on the rockfather kit! they still don't have a date or price, but at least they're making progress... they're using high angle CV's, and stronger axles (birfields?).... now here's the fun part (for the extreme guys)... if you take this 6 inch full suspension kit, add a 3 inch body lift, you'll have 9 inches.... correct me if i'm wrong, but that means you can put 35's on with no problems, right? but isn't 33's the biggest recommended tire for the trac/kick? as far as the diff's go and stuff.. and how would the engine turn something that big?? here's my solution, if i had a bottomless pocket full of cash... 4.3 liter and matching transmission, (would i have to change the t-case also? or will the original work?)... t-case gears, ring and pionion gears, ARBed front and rear.... 35" boggers.... ya know, the ones that just have the lugs going pretty much straight out, with no siping or anything like that? oh yeah, FIND a way to upgrade the $|removethispart|@#! out of the brakes somehow or another...
anyway, just thought i'd throw out that piece of info about the kit

unless someone comes out with the 5.89:1 diff gears again going with large tires will mean using a samurai tcase behind the kick case to get the gearing correct.
Looks like they are going to offer a good kit though. Coil overs are something I was looking at. With some simple upgrades to the strut towers they could be run pretty easily.

quoting RRO's "in the works" page about updated news
Rockfather suspension:First off, there is no set pricing or release date yet. We will post the information as soon as we know anything for certain. Asking us for information on this will not result in any real answers at this time unfortunately.
The main news is that we have made a major design change to the system which we feel will greatly improve the overall design. This change will cause the price to go up, but for those serious enough to do a 6" lift... you'll want these anyway. High angle CV joints will be used. These will allow the extreme amoutn of lift to be run WITHOUT having to drop the front differential. This means no loss of clearance on the front by having to drop the 3rd member to run stock axles. Our new axles will be FAR stronger than stock (the birfields are guaranteed against breakage), and will handle the angles with no problems at all. This may not seem like a major development, but check out those lifted Toyotas and Chevys with their whole front suspension dropped way below the frame to keep the stock axles happy. Our setup will mean you've got monster clearance and stronger axles.
2nd piece of news is that we will be using a coilover/strut assembly. Again, a bit more costly, but you'll be able to change out your springs easily to different spring rates, adjust the height up or down on the front end a couple inches. Just a far cry better than the spearate strut/spring setup our competition overcharges for... this suspension will make your vehicle world-class!
So who wants to start guessing on price??
I say $1800.

I WOULD say mid-2's.... but i don't really know much about the components and stuff.... just enough to know that 6 inches without dropping the diff's is a plus!! hopefully they'll have an introductory discount (or like a beta test thingy) and i'll have real good timing and get a kit for pretty cheap
I was thinking about doing that "budget lift" on zuwharrie, 3 inch body, 2 inch coil spacers from a jeep... but since it seems like they're getting closer to finishing this, i might wait... if i go with a body lift, and decide to take it off later, will it cause problems? like, i know that if i do the gas tank lift, I would have to basically reverse the whole thing and all that stuff... but if i cut the skid plate, will it not mess it up when i try to put it back in the original location? i may just do the coil spacers and get 235's until they finish the kit... any advice guys?
-
a 2" body lift can be reversed easily in my opinion. The gas tank thing could be a pain if you cut anything stock out of it
-
i wouldn't count on seeing this kit anytime soon. it's been 65 million years in the making.
;D

That's called 'Evolution'... ;)
But I'd like to see those upgraded CV's and know if you can buy these parts seperately.....

* yawn *
I hear they're doing belly armor "real soon", too...
Dear Glenn Wakefield,
Shut your pie hole, and start delivering stuff, instead of feeding us another line of BS.
Sincerely,

Not to hi-jack the thread nut sean can you give us some info on the skids?
thanks!!
-
I badly want to see this kit. You me I could fit 31's without a body lift??? SWEEEEEEET
-
yeah, i should know better than to get my hopes up.... this thing has been "in the final stages of developement" for as long as i can remember, i know at least a year, because that's about the time i started looking into trackers and sidekicks... I would hate to know what it was like when they first got the idea and put it on their site... but i'm with deathrunner.... just the idea of 31's or 32's with no body lift is just amazing!! and even better, the fact that you don't have to drop the front diff.!!

Why do they have such a problem with dropping the front diff a couple inches, I don't get it? If they designed a bolt on frame system to drop the whole IFS setup 6" I wouldn't care.
-
It's a ground clearance issue, I tend to
agree that dropping the front diff is a
un-needed part and reduces clearance
But then again I don't have a Calmini lift,
I built my own 3" lift, still have never had
any issues with the front diff, tho I think
I have worn out one pair of CV shafts

But the diff is definatly higher than if it were solid axle - lift a solid axle, the diff stays put, must ppl lift to run bigger tires, and there's your diff height.
-
i hope there kit also has an option to add a "walker" mount to it because by the time they release this kit im gonna need it, that is if they still let me drive :o :o :o
-
they should change it to great grandfather kit!!!!!
-
It is a good thing "Dreams are free" because this one would cost a fortune :'(.
I like the idea but then who wouldn't :).
As for dropping the front diff - this is mandatory in my opinion. With 6" of lift the CV angles would be radical to say the least - binding or at the least limited angular movement would be unacceptable :( . this includes steering and suspension travel.
With 6" of lift I really do not think dropping the diff down level with the front cross member is really going to matter ( ala Calmini ), I mean if the bottom is level with the cross member then you have lost nothing but certainly have helped those poor CV's :'(
At least "The Rock ( or should that be "Stoned" ) Father" has spawned healthy discussion if nothing else - now it is just time someone actually built it 8).
Immmmmm - Don't see anyone putting their hand up ???

I'm confused. I ran 35x14.50 boggers on my kick with the calmini 6" combo. It was easy. if you want to run them (sorry Nike) just do it. And for the people talking about 31's or 32s... I have 31x10.50's on mine today with only the 3" body lift. It seems easy to me to get the tire size some of you want without a massive custom job.
Just my 3 cents.
