ZUKIWORLD 'ZUKFARI / Cline Butte - Memorial Day Weekend, 2025
« Last post by ebewley on May 12, 2025, 04:07:56 PM »
Hello - We're planning on a Suzuki gathering over the Memorial Day Weekend at Cline Butte OHV area. Well be there Friday afternoon. Look for the camper/pickup with my Green Sidekick. I'd the staging area is too crowded, we'll move down by the pit. Camping Friday and probably Saturday depending on conditions and group thoughts. Going to be fun!  Here's more information:

From the BLM flyer:

Welcome to CLINE BUTTES OHV TRAIL SYSTEM!
Load your trailer with the jeep, quad and motorcycle because this trail system has it all!. Practice your
skills on some of the easy OHV trails in the valley bottom or head out on the ridges to test your skills
on Trail #34, a spectacular rock crawl area featured in Peterson’s Off-road and 4-wheeler 2012 Ultimate
Adventure. The trails at North Barr meander through ancient juniper and twisted lava rock with gorgeous
views of the Cascade Mountains. Often dusty in the summer months, this trail system offers phenomenal
riding options when other areas are rained out or snowed in!

Know before you go
Open YEAR ROUND, but the best riding is October—May. Stay on
designated trail. All OHVs are limited to 96 decibels.
be prepared for any weather, bring safety gear, and ride within your skill level.
Be aware of your surroundings and know how to read a map and use a compass.
no fEES. Overnight camping is allowed. No water on site.
TAKE CARE to avoid crossing on to private land.

directions
The North Barr Trailhead is one of two trailheads in the Cline Buttes Central
Motorized Trail Use Area. To get there, from Redmond head west about 7 miles
on Highway 126 toward Sisters. Turn south on Barr Road and the trailhead will
be on your right in about one quarter mile.

Hello the Blackdog, Yup, Brown's camp is cool... being from Longview, I'm surprised you haven't been there yet and I'd encourage you to go for it! For us, over the Memorial Day weekend, we're going to explore and play at the Cline Butte, OHV area between Sister and Redmond.. It's a bit further a drive for you but would be fun should you decide to join us. -Eric

I live in Longview WA and have never been to Brown's Camp, sounds like something my Zuke on 31s might chew into.
If plans develop let me know.

No,
No,
No,
No.

A 1995 Samurai should have a viscous coupled clutch fan, and assuming that is working properly, there is nothing to be gained by switching to an electric fan - the clutch allows the fan to effectively freewheel when not required, it will spin at lower than full rpm unless the air flowing through the radiator is at a temperature that causes it to engage, so under normal, non overheating conditions, it does not draw an appreciable amount of horse power, so there is little to be gained by not having it.  For similar reasons, it will have a negligible impact on gas mileage.

Does if function correctly - that's going to depend on your implementation - first, can you get an electric fan that moves as much air as your existing fan?  Second, when that fan is running where does the power come from, the stock alternator is a 50A unit (up from 45A on the carbed Samurais), how many amps does your new fan pull, can the alternator supply it or will you need an upgrade?  Does the upgrade use a vee belt or multirib, will you need to be changing water pump & crank pulleys as a part of the fan upgrade?

In a nutshell, I'd rather fix the engine driven fan rather than switch to an electric, and if the engine drive fan is working, just leave it alone.

I am looking for some input on Electric Radiator fan versus standard fan.
   Is it a good ideal?
Does it offer and horse-power increase?
   Does it improve gas mileage?
   Does it function correctly?
I have a 1995 Suzuki Samurai with a 1.3 engine.  Any input or information would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like our group does not have anything planned for the Memorial Day weekend so hopefully something in your area can be organized. After discussing it with the group it sounds that they are more interested in Cline Butte than Rim Butte. There is plans in the works for a trip to Browns camp and the Puyallup group to come down since we have been up North a couple of times. I will keep everyone posted if that gets finalized.

Hello! I don’t know if anyone is in the market but figured I would throw this up in case someone is looking.

I have a 1988 that I, unfortunately, need to sell. I put it up on BAT and there are a few days left.
