Idle-up
« on: October 03, 2006, 03:22:45 PM »
I have a 1985 Sierra/Samurai. When you turn the headlights on, the engine idle goes up. Is there a way to switch on this "idle-up" without turning the headlights on? I want to make the idle go up to around 1500rpm when I turn on my 12v compressor, but I don't want it at 1500rpm everytime I turn on the headlights.

Hope that makes sense

Can I just cut one of the wires that runs to the "idle up" solenoid & put a switch "inline"?

Cheers

I would think,

The idle goes up because of the load the headlights puts on the alternator, if you hook up a compressor, the idle should go up automatically when you turn it on, and it draws amps from the alternator.

The problem is, if I adjust it to say 1500rpm, turn on compressor, it should work fine. BUT,I don't want it at 1500rpm every time I turn on the headlamps. I only want it that high when the compressor is on.
