samurai motor biuld up suggestions
« on: May 06, 2007, 09:26:35 AM »
I'd like to get a little more power from my 1.3,  I don't really know what the factory rating is,  i think 55 horse, and 75 ft lbs?  its a carbed 88,  i want more power for rock crwling at slow speeds, and more wheel speed for hill climbs,  I already have the 4 to 1 t-case,  and I don't went to change to a different motor,  I have 2 extra 1.3's  sitting in my garage...   I have had bad luck in the past with carb swaps,  so i'd like to keep the factory carb... or maybe throttle body it if any body makes a kit...
I'm thinken cam it, and a header,  and electric fan,  might give me the desired results?
but I kind want to know about what kind of work on the head I can have done?  what cam grind is good,  any other companys out there that deal with this stuff?? etc.

or  just some simple suggestions...
thanks

If you want more power then you will need a bigger carb or a good sized TBI. The Weber makes a lot more power because it is significantly larger. If you're doing hillclimbs then I wouldn't suggest that. I would look at fitting a Track/Kick TBI with a custom ECU, maybe a Megasquirt. I doubt that you'll see much from the electric fan but a good header and cam would liven it up. From previous posts that others have made it would seem that the Thorley header and an Isky cam is a good setup.
Head work I don't know, clean up the ports and maybe fit the larger 1.6 valves. I'm pretty sure Zaggy did a fair bit of work on a 1.3, he doesn't post very often now but you could PM him.

I have build lots of 1.3's, I think the best thing you can do to the 1.3 is to have the machine shop install 1.6 valves, and port the head as well.
