I can't figure which is the best way to fix the timing, on my 87' Samurai. My engine runs it just spits and pop, so I'm sure the timing is off. I replaced the belt and adjusted the timing and I'm still having the same problem. I don't know if I need to replace my crank shaft or if there is something else wrong with it. I tried finding an Adj. cam sprocket but theyre not made anymore. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My guesses.....
1) when you replaced the belt, you didn't get the cam and crank phased correctly.
2) the timing is not adjusted to spec...should be 10* BTDC.
3) the crank pulley is loose and/or the key or key slot is worn.

I was having the same problem on my 86, turned out to be a worn key slot on the end of my crank. Yours could be a worn slot on the pulley, which would be cheaper.

Where would be the best place to get a new key and key slot?

If you are using the timing marks on the fly wheel and shorting the ecm advance wire to spec, you could have a couple of spark plug wires crossed, the slot would have to be epoxedy or use some devcon on the crank but get the key from a dealer.
