i got the toyota front axle in successfully!!!

now i am up to the daunting task of steering. i have the toyota IFS steering box, but no pump. i was wondering if it's no biggie to drive with no pump for a while until i get my hands on one? if i can, do i just plug the lines for the pump so there's no outlet for the steering box fluid?

It will be a real pain to drive without a pump.  Mainly because the ratio is much lower then on a manual steering box.  You should be able to adapt just about any pump though.

I assume that you mean that the steering box is a powered one but you just don't have the plumbing or pump for it yet...

It probably would be okay to run it for a little while - especially if you have the ports sealed against dust - but you probably need to find and hook up a pump to it.

Time to look for a salvage yard pump!

If it were me I would hook up one hose to it and fill it with fluid and then connect it to the other side of the box so you don't build pressure.

That is a pretty good solution.

thanks for the replies, but i've got more problems to pull out of the hat...

driveshafts... zuki to toyota axle doesn't fit, so a toyota shaft won't fit the t-case, right? so then would it be possible to fit the splines of the different shafts together?

You just need an adapter.  I know Rocky Road has one - http://www.rocky-road.com/zukdrive.html - and someone else had some too, but it's bed time and I can't remember. :)
