Which Tracker to Choose?
« on: December 29, 2010, 12:43:43 PM »
Sooo Here's my issue, I've got a 91 Tracker w/ a 1.6L 8Valve Running Coil Spacers and 2'' Body Lift.

I can barely run 31's but rub a hair on the back of the front fender (fixing that right now actually).

Just got new rims (to me), and brand new tires. Just put a rebuilt motor in, used tranny (mine had syncros bad in 2nd gear) as well as used T-case.

Custom Bumpers front and rear and new header coming from low range... and a new rear locker in the works.

I can't run up hills (big hills) greater than about 45 mph and that's pushing it, I know that a  header will help, but not sure how much.

***********Now my issue I want a TURBO tracker or kick able to run 35's down the road at 65-75 mph w/ a straight axle (I'm going to do all of the work). My question is which year of Tracker or Kick to choose from for the best motor to either turbo or get a turbo motor that will fit into a new toy.***************

I am running a 2.5L V-6 in a first generation sidekick, auto, Toy axles, and 37's..... I can run 75-80 mph down the interstate, It sucks down the gas at those speeds, but she does it with no problem.......  It runs comfortable down the road at 65-70...

The 16V engine is the easiest to turbo, but I have been working on a new
intake that will put port injection on an 8V engine, and allow you to use the
stock computer and fuel pump, the only problem is it's not tuned or tested
so you would be a test platform for this new system, and on the down side
you won't be able to use your new header with a turbo because the turbo
header replaces that, as well as you need to modify your exhaust, 2.5" works
well on a turbo engine, but 2" will work, it's just a little more restrictive than
you probably would want for max performance

Wild,
Yes I do agree with you, I would not be able to use the header I just purchased, and I would be putting extreme strain on a rebuilt motor, Also I would have problems with the computer control (not being able to get a larger injector for the 8 Valve).

That is why I am looking at a new Tracker/Kick all together. I'm looking for a new toy to start building but not sure which year to try and get....

I have heard of the 16 Valve being turbo'd but is there another make/model w/ a different motor that is even more productive w/ a turbo than the 16 Valve?

Also do you personally think that the 16 Valve turbo'd would be enough power to cruise with 35's (straight axled')? and if so which axle's and gears?

Re-read my post, I have a friend running 35s with an auto trans, low range
T-case and

a NOS setup, on the street it's a little sluggish but performs
well offroad

There is no choice in gears these days, the only option is the Undertaker
