Service Engine Light
« on: May 04, 2004, 08:09:59 AM »
There was a topic that got erased during the server crash about a service engine light reset. Someone said there was a swich behind the drivers speaker. I have looked behind mine, and I can't find it anywhere. I have a 90 tracker 2dr. Could someone tell me where (top left, bottom tight, etc. ) it is and how far behind the speaker to look. Please be specific. All I see is a gold colored box and some plugs for the wiring harness. Thanks.

I can confirm that such a switch exists, but I can't tell you where it is.  The repair shop reset mine last week.

I got an 89 sidekick and that darn switch is not behind the speaker!!! It is directly under the steering column, mounted to the plastic approx. 2-3 inches from the bottom.  I finally found mine after much searching!!

I simply pulled the bulb out from the check engine light,

all it is; is a dummy light. I rely on the gages, I have all gages except a pyrometer gage.

I think this switch is like snipe hunting. Does it really exist?

On my 91 4-door, I think it was right by one of the speaker mounting screws - this switch is maybe 3/4 inch long (2 cm) - it's just a little black slide-switch.

Pop the trim panel under the steering wheel, and take the speaker out - you'll find it eventually - should be real close to the surface - not buried back behind the dash.

When my 1995 2-door light went on, I had just bought it, and was driving it home from Dallas to Denver.  I didn't even stop - I popped the trim panel, and flipped the switch by feel, in the dark.

EDIT:  I guess I need to find a better place to host my avatar!  Drat!
