1996 tracker tire help plz!!!
« on: July 09, 2011, 09:22:27 PM »
I just got my 1996 4 door geo tracker LSI 4x4, but there's no way I could go offroad with the current stock tires and wheels.
I was wondering what is the biggest wheel and tire I could put on there and what is the best mud/road tire. I should be driving about 70-80% onroad but I want to be able to tear it up when I do get offroad.
Thanks

Without any kind of suspension or body lift, you can go safely up to a size 225 15.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

so tell us more.....

wheeling type?
budget?(IMPORTANT)
are you willing to lift it allot?

if you are driving 20-30% of your rigs life off road then I agree you need some mods.....
theres the coil spacer lift and 30's that's very popular and with a traction aid and driving ability you could go most anywhere. or if your like most gearheads and cant leave things well enough alone....
theres the trail slayer from trailtough. then go to 35's. killer set up but then underhood mods will be needed. or theres a custom sas to any size you want.....47" LTB swampers maybe.....(maybe that's my voices in my head talking) :)

just keep us posted on your progress....pics too.

Specically I'm looking for some mudding tires.

Also budget is not too big of a problem. I plan on finishing this project over several years. But I do want to get the new wheels, tires and lift on this summer.

What do you think about Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs and a rocksteady 4.5" suspension lift?

MTZ's are a good all around tire. avoid the rockyroad products like the plague!,I think everybody has giving up on that company.I could actually recommend calmini over them (and that's hard too do!). the best thing on the market right now is zukination/alterego lift. spendy but it looks to have more than 20 minutes of engineering in to it like the other ones do. ;)

Haha. All right. Just took a look at those alter egos. Looks like it would be $600 for the standard 3". And $1,400 more for another 1.5". So I think I might just go with the 3". Any idea what the tallest tire I can't put on after the 3" is?

Oh and last question. What about a 3" body lift? I'm not sure if it would do much for my tracker.

you will still be stuck to a 30-31" tire unless you are handy with a sawzall and BFH. skip the body lift. (junk IMO). a 30- 31" tire seems to be the happy spot for all the other stock components and power curve. put more focus on traction aids. four spinning 31's will out wheel 2 spinning 35's most all of the time.

also, if you can swing it, get the full zukination system. yea spendy, but sweet and built to wheel not just to "lift"
