I believe a solid lock front makes steering hard/impossible under some situations off-road.  You might have to get out and unlock your hubs to make some tight bends, and then you'd only have 2WD to get round them.

There is a simple solution to that, twin sticks, just slip the TC into 2wd and the turn radius is back on the trails.

I agree that's easier than getting out to to unlock the hubs, but you are still left in 2WD when the only point in locking the front diff is to get better 4WD.  It's self-defeating.
