I just got a 4000lb for my tracker.  I got it cause it's lightweight, I dont have a whole lot of power with the 1.6 to play with

If you use a snatch block, and double the cable back to your car, then you'll effectively double the capacity of the winch, reducing the strain on it.

The single line pull capacity will be 3500lb, and a double line will be close to 7000lb.

I think this would work just fine for you, unless your 31" tires are completely stuck in the mud, then you may not get unstuck with the winch alone.

The general equation I've heard when dealing with bigger trucks is 1.5 times the weight of your truck as you intend to use it.  So for most fullsize trucks weighing in around 5000lbs a 9000lb winch is good.  For a 2-3k Suzuki I'd think a 3500lb winch would work, but I don't know if there are any internal differences to consider.

Considered a 6k winch?

I feel you can't really go too big with winch power.  I have saved myself and many others with my 8274.  It's not good to strain a winch - it leads to having to rebuild the electric motor, which isn't too hard, but annoying...

I have a 8000lb warn winch and I ripped my bumper off once trying to pull a guy out. It difinetly had enough pulling power for my sidekick. Dang near pulled it over on it side oncee pulling at an angle in the snow. ;D

Be sure that it has an internal brake. A lot of atv winches do not have one.

I used a 3000lb Milemarker on Silver and it worked great for it. The only issue I ever had was snapping the cable, but that was my fault, shock loading it across a rock... ::)
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...
