Towing with a Samurai....
« on: July 05, 2006, 05:51:45 AM »
Can anyone tell me what the towing capacity is for a Samurai?  I have a 5'x10' trailer I was wondering if a Samurai could pull it.

Thanks for any info you can give...

If the trailer is empty then you might get up to 60MPH on the highway......
90 Samurai 4" lift finally installed.  Now it's time for some good tires.

I towed my 3000lb tow dolly with mine, it was lifted and 31's.  did about 55-60 mph down the road.

Not sure about the Sami.  Probably the same 1000 lbs that seems to be the default figure that they give for about everything smaller than a Suburban :) :) ???

The Tracker has a 1000 lb tow rating.  The Tracker pulls my 780 lb popup camper (loaded down with gear, probably pushing the 1K mark) pretty well.  No problems with sway, just a bit slow off the line.  I used to own a Sami, but never tried to tow with it.  I wouldn't hesitate to try to pull the camper with a Sami, but with the shorter wheelbase, higher CG, narrower track and smaller engine, I don't think it would do as well or be as stable.

According to the Samurai users manual, the towing capacity is 1,000 lbs.

The towing capacities seem to be a regional thing. Here in the UK they are much higher for the Track/Kick (2543lbs braked/1653lbs unbraked). Those figures may be based on what the UK legislation allows -1653lbs/750kg is the legal max for an unbraked trailer. I've towed a car trailer with an SJ on it and it managed OK, lots of use of the lower gears on hills though.
I don't have all the figures for my 413 pick up but its max. towing capacity is stated at 2420lbs. Its an lwb so therefore should be a bit more stable, but I reckon the 1.3 would really struggle to pull anything like that figure.
That tow dolly, was that 3000lbs loaded or a tow dolly with a 3000lbs max. capability?

Even with a braked trailer I found that the Vits braking system was working harder than I'd like.
