Yeah i got to mount it somewhere (possibly on the spare tire rack) and run all that wire.  I am good a running wire (did a lot of care stereos) but man is it time consuming.

I've found the tail gate as a good area.
it won't get knocked by branches.

you need to remember that the aerial transmits in a cone, like a partially open umbrella ( with the handle at the top) so anything in the way like spare wheels will take a bite out of that transmission;

  roof is best!

mine's on my roof basket angled a little back. other than the angle I'd say it's the best spot possible. doesn't work too bad. I need to adjust my adjustable antenna though. I have a non-adjustable one I got for free on it right now just because I felt like giving it a try
2000 Grand Vitara.. boondox coil spacer lift w/ pro comp 2 inch lift shocks and ome struts. 225/75 R16 Kumho Mt's, powdercoated wheels, rear brake line relocation and stuff to acomodate. custom exhaust and intake along with some 1 off accesories.

Roof mount would make it too tall.
Besides, i heard as long as it's atleast a foot over your roof line, you should be good.
Or that could just be a theory(sp?)
