Widening without welding washer

i need to do the hagen widening mod but i don't have a welder, i can get the sub cut to run the drivers cv but is it ok to not weld the washer onto the frame like in this pic

No,if you do not weld in the washer it may allow the cross member to tear back into the old hole.

so are you saying that i should just build it all put a washer on there but not weld it, throw it all back together, trailor it down to my welder buddy and get him to crawl under and weld it to the x member?

That sounds right to me.  Put it all together the way they say, then take it to someone and have them weld it, but make sure it is at the right alignment (the bolt i mean) before they weld it in place.

sounds good, probably won't do this till spring, too cold

Use good thick washers. MarkyB had problems with the stock mountings points elongating.
