i got an 89 for parts was gonna put the motor in my 94 i just picked up they look the same except i thought the valve covers might have been different i could be wrong but i left the 94 at my parents so cant really compare them right now

actually i put an 89 motor in my 94 just like you wanna do...it'll work...both are exactly the same

yes, if your 94 has an 8v. but if your 94 has a 16v engine, you would be losing about 15 horsepower......that is, of course, as long as the 89 has a 1.6.....some had a carbuerated 1.3, which would almost be pointless to swap into your 94

16V has 16V cast on the rocker cover. The cover itself is quite different, if it looks like an 8V then it is one. 16V wiring and electronics is quite diffferent, not a straight swap. A 1.3 would have G13a on the block.

i cant remember if the cover is the same its in town at my old mans. i know the throttle body and some of the wiring was the same just trying to figure it out before i go out and tear the motor out of the 89 is there any way to tell by the vin number or where could i find a pic of the 16v

i did a search on carfax just where u put in the vin and it tells u what the car is  but u have to pay to find out the history and this says its a- 1.6l L4 FI does mean its 8 or 16 lol

The only dyno comparison that I have seen for both showed the 8V and 16V equal at lower rpm with the 16V just building harder. At high rpm the 16V just carried on increasing power after the 8V had started to drop off.

got the tracker home the other day the motors are the same jsut gotta figure out what i can keep on the 89 when i drop it in the 94 i heard there was some stuff that is different on them
